Stuart Dallas said he was “delighted” to be called in to the Northern Ireland squad for two upcoming matches.
The 23-year-old attacker was named in the squad, announced yesterday, for a friendly against Scotland and a UEFA European Championships qualifier against Finland.
Stuart has won one cap, awarded before he joined Brentford, but was injured for Northern Ireland’s games in the autumn.
“I was delighted when I heard I was called up,” he said.
“The last few times there have been squads I have been injured and unable to go.
“I am looking forward to it and there should be two good games.”
Stuart said he was now 100 per cent fit and ready to play for his country after injury ruled him out of previous squads.
He described his call-up as a dream come true.
“The last few times there have been squads I have been injured and they have known that,” said Stuart.
“For the last squad I was coming back from injury and not 100 per cent right.
“I didn’t think I would do myself or the team justice to join up.
“Now I am 100 per cent and ready to go.
“You have to make the most of the chance to represent your country, it is not a chance everyone gets.
“As a Northern Irish lad it is a dream come true.
“My family were delighted, they know it has been a dream of mine and they are looking forward to seeing me play.”
Stuart will go away with Northern Ireland on Sunday, March 22, but Brentford play two games before then.
The first is away to Blackburn Rovers tonight, Tuesday March 17, before they host Millwall on Saturday.
Brentford will be looking to bounce back from a loss against Cardiff City on Saturday, March 14, when they head to Blackburn.
The Bees dominated for long periods and went in at half time 1-0 up thanks to an Andre Gray goal.
But defensive errors gave Cardiff two goals and the Welsh side took a 2-1 win despite having two players sent off late on.
Stuart said Brentford were punished for not scoring a second but couldn’t dwell on the loss and had to put it right.
“I thought it was a game we dominated in terms of possession but we couldn’t get the second goal to give us breathing space,” he said.
“We were punished for it.
“We have a game tomorrow.
“We can concentrate on that and look to put it right.
“A defeat is hard to take.
“You can’t dwell on it and you have to move on.
“Tuesday comes quickly and we have a huge game away to Blackburn, we will be looking to put it right.”
Brentford are sixth in the table, seven points off the top with nine games to go.
Blackburn are tenth and a win would pull them within five points of The Bees and give them a chance of taking a Play-Off spot.
Brentford will be looking to add Blackburn to the list of clubs they have beaten away from home after picking up victories at teams including Leeds United, Cardiff, Nottingham Forest and Norwich City.
“Blackburn are the home team and will look to come at us,” said Stuart.
“They had a good win on Saturday.
“They are a good side with a lot of good players.
“It will be a tough game but we are ready for it.
“We have shown we can go to the so-called bigger teams and get results.
“On our day if we play the way we can and impose ourselves on the game we have a good chance of getting the result.
“Tomorrow is no different.
“The boys are chomping at the bit to put things right and we’re looking forward to it.”
