Brentford Development Squad Manager Jon De Souza said it was brilliant that two players had earned promotion to the First Team in the last six months.
Attacking midfield duo Charlie Adams and Josh Clarke were both promoted to the First Team group towards the end of the 2013/14 season.
Josh has subsequently signed a deal to keep him at Brentford until next summer while Charlie is already under contract until June 2015.
Jon, during an extensive end-of-season interview with Bees Player, said his job was to promote the First Team.
He said one way was to produce players that can play in the Football League for The Bees and Brentford Manager Mark Warburton was keen to give youngsters a chance to prove themselves at the higher level.
“The only thing I am here to do is to support the First Team in any way I can,” said Jon.
“First and foremost I can do that by producing players to play in the First Team.
“Mark Warburton, since he has come in, has given players a chance to train with them, travel with them, be on the bench and play.
“Charlie and Josh have earned first team contracts.
“That is brilliant for us.”
Charlie and Josh progressed to the First Team in slightly different ways.
Charlie came through from Brentford FC Community Sports Trust to the Academy, moved out on loan to Barnet in February after impressing at Development Squad level and was brought back to be part of the First Team group.
Josh was plucked from park football at the age of 17 and given a scholarship, he turned professional last summer and earned a First Team contract on the back of his performances in Development Squad matches and training.
“There is no wrong or right way,” said Jon.
“In the Academy, we look at it as an individual sport.
“We want to get individuals in to the First Team.
“Every individual is different.
“One player may need to go out on loan to a passing team to develop technically, another might need to go to a team that is more aggressive to get used to the dirty parts of the game, another might need to stay here.
“We look at each individual, what they need to develop to get in to our First Team and try to give them the opportunities.”
Josh made his Football League debut against Colchester United in April while Charlie made three appearances in Sky Bet League One in 2013/14.
They were both on the pitch against Colchester and Jon said he was disappointed not to have been there.
He added the players deserved all the credit for where they had got.
“I don’t think there is a better feeling for me than seeing those guys on the pitch as First Team players,” said Jon.
“I was disappointed I wasn’t there.
“When I watch games when I know they will be on the bench I am nervous, because I have spent a lot of time with them but seeing them on the pitch, there isn’t a better feeling as a youth developer.
“Players deserve the credit for what they have achieved and coaches just facilitate it.
“Bad coaches can harm players and stop players, good coaches allow players to develop.
“The players deserve the credit, they have worked so hard.
“There are so many staff that have helped the players develop, sports science, analysis, medical, ultimately the player gets the opportunity.”
Jon said there was no set process for promotion to the First Team group.
He added Mark Warburton watched a lot of matches and took advice from Academy staff but the player, ultimately, had to earn the chance.
“There isn’t a process but Mark watches games and players have to impress him,” said Jon.
“They also have to impress in training, when they are around our First Team players.
“Once they do that, they are3 n the manager’s thinking.
“He gets reports about all our games and speaks to us about them.
“I have great dialogue with Mark and when he feels someone has done well enough to train with the First Team and potentially be involved he will give them the opportunity.
“The player has to earn it.”
