Nico Yennaris believes that everybody around the club needs to stick together as The Bees try and end a run which has seen them win just once in their last eight league matches. The latest defeat came after a 3-0 reversal away at Queens Park Rangers who scored in the first-half through Junior Hoilett and then added two more in the second-half thanks to Sebastian Polter and Tjaronn Chery. Nico admits that things are difficult for everyone right now but thinks that they can only get out of this run of form by staying together.
“When you lose a few games on the bounce it is hard and this is where we have to stick together as a club,” said Nico. “We have to stick together, keep plugging away and get through this spell. As long as we keep trying to do the right things then I am sure results will come. It was disappointing not to get the result for the fans but they were brilliant throughout the game. We are thankful for their support as ever. It was brilliant support on the road and we have to stick together and bounce back together. The fans, players and staff have to stick together through the tough times and the good times as well. It’s a tough time so we need everyone to stick together and then enjoy the good times to come.”
After an even first 30 minutes Queens Park Rangers went ahead this afternoon as Hoilett curled home from 25 yards before the hosts capitalised on hesitancy in The Bees backline to net twice through Polter and Chery in five second-half minutes. Nico felt that Rangers didn’t have to work hard enough for their goals and that was the most frustrating aspect for him.
“It was disappointing to lose a derby,” said Nico. “I thought for spells of the game we were controlling it really well. Even after the first goal went in we were still well in the game. We had some good passages of play and we have gifted them easy goals. They didn’t have to work for the goals. Whether or not it was a foul that was up to the ref. We were sloppy on the ball. We should have dealt with the first goal better but you could say that about all the goals. It was a great finish from him but we still have to defend that better. We were in the game and controlling quite well up to then. In the final third, either getting on the end of crosses or being better on the ball, it was breaking down a bit too much.”
Next up is a home game against Blackburn Rovers on Saturday ahead of a two week break without a game due to international matches. Nico said it would be a great boost to everyone to go into that break on the back of a win and said the squad will be back in working hard from Monday to achieve that.
“We have to put this behind us and go again,” said Nico. “We are back in to training again on Monday and it starts all over again. We have to stick together on the training pitch and work hard all week. We are always trying to improve and learn from our errors in the game. With the poor run of results recently it would be good to go into the international break with a win. It would lift the guys and the club. It is very important for us to bounce back before the break.”
