Nico Yennaris made his first league start since last April at The Valley on Saturday, taking the place of suspended full back Jake Bidwell after his dismissal against Watford last Tuesday.
The 21-year-old gave his thoughts on his return and the result.
“It was nice to be back on the pitch after a long time out of the team,” said Nico.
“Obviously it’s not the result I want or the team wanted.
“We need to bounce back from this now and prepare well for next week; we weren’t at it all over the pitch.
“Not individually but collectively I think we were second best to everything.
“Charlton wanted it more; we need to have a look at ourselves and get things right.”
Nico played out of position at left back but did not have any qualms in doing so.
“[I’m] happy to play on either side,” said Nico.
“At the end of the day, it’s game time, so with suspension I’m happy to cover there.”
The former Arsenal defender spoke of the squad’s character despite the defeat and the recent potential off pitch disturbance.
“As a team, unity is one of our strongest aspects,” said Nico.
“We’re all in it together and have all got each other’s backs – once we cross that white line we’ve got a job to do.
“What happens off the pitch, stays off it.
“We haven’t really focused on it, we have a job in hand to get three points and win games of football and that’s all we can do at the end of the day.
“The team will stick together and fight to the end - that’s our job.”
