Nico Yennaris was the joint winner in the first team building exercise the squad and staff undertook out at the pre-season training camp in Portugal. The 22-year-old, together with co-driving partner and Performance Coach Tom Bates, took first prize ahead of Jota and Mark Smith at a go karting track near to the team’s hotel.
The competitive spirit carried on from pitch to race track, with the squad and staff eager to prove their credentials on the tarmac.
“It was quite competitive; it’s nice to win in any sport, said Nico.”
Nico talked to Bees Player about the pre-season tour so far, and gave a glowing recommendation to the training sessions put on by new Head Coach Marinus Dijkhuizen and his team.
“I’m thoroughly enjoying it,” said Nico. “The weather’s good and the training has been really good, and of a high standard also. The facilities are nice and it’s good to do the team building sessions too.”
The former Arsenal defender, who joined Brentford in January 2014, also spoke out his desire to break into the First Team squad on a more regular basis, and remarked that his loan spell at League Two Wycombe Wanderers served him well.
“Since I’ve come in I haven’t played in most games,” said Nico. “It has been a bit disappointing but with a new manager and a fresh start I can go again, see what happens and what the future has in store for me.
“That was the main thing for me to go and get regular games [at Wycombe]. I managed to play 17 games in the end, and the feedback was that I did really well. Now, I have to push on with Brentford and get myself in the starting line-up.”
