Nico Yennaris said Brentford’s players had taken confidence from their pre-season win over Crystal Palace.
The Bees beat the Premier League side 3-2 at Griffin Park yesterday.
Moses Odubajo scored the winner after goals from Jonathan Douglas and Andre Gray had been cancelled out.
Nico, who came on as a second half substitute, said the players could not wait for the Sky Bet Championship season to start next Saturday.
“Everyone is upbeat,” said the full back, speaking to Bees Player.
“We have had a good pre-season, we got good results, bar one, and the team has taken confidence from that game.
“We have beaten a good Premier League team.
“Everyone is confident.
“We believe in ourselves and we have to do it week-in, week-out now.
“We have seven days to go, we are feeling good and waiting for the season to start.”
Palace brought a strong side to Griffin Park and Nice said Brentford took the opportunity to show what they could do.
“We had a look at their team before the game,” he said.
“We knew they would bring a decent squad and there were a lot of players who have played in the Premier League for a few years.
“It was a good opportunity for us to show how good we are.
“We did that.”
Nico joined The Bees from Arsenal in January and has been through his first pre-season with the Club.
He said it was similar to one at Arsenal with football taking priority.
Nico added a pre-season training camp in America last month had served him, and the squad, well.
“I am feeling good,” he said.
“I am feeling sharper, fitter and stronger.
“It is onwards and upwards for me.
“This pre-season is similar to those at Arsenal.
“We did a lot of ball work; it is like I was used to.
“We got the balls out straight away, that is the way we want to do it.
“We use the games to build-up.
“America was tough; it was hot and humid but did us good.”
Nico said the squad was in good shape and he would be working hard to get a starting spot.
“We have good strength in depth,” he said.
“We will need it for the season.
“All I can do is work, do my all and give my best.
“I have to hope I get picked but I have to work.
“I am ready and the team is ready.”
