Nico Yennaris said Brentford’s Sky Bet League One win over Coventry City was comfortable in the end.
The right back made his home debut in the 3-1 win over Coventry on Saturday.
Nico, speaking to Bees Player: Match Day Live after the win, said that Brentford started slowly but stepped it up as the afternoon wore on.
The Bees conceded an early goal and Alan Judge had a penalty saved but Clayton Donaldson and Marcello Trotta scored in quick succession to give The Bees the lead.
Nico came on at half time when George Saville went off.
Alan McCormack moved in to midfield and scored almost immediately.
The goal killed the game as a contest and Brentford saw the match out.
“Before the game I said to Kevin O’Connor that I had not made my home debut,” said Nico.
“It came sooner than I thought.
“It is good that within the squad we have players that can play in different positions.
“Alan McCormack went in to midfield and I came on.
“I got the pace of the game quickly.
“You have to be ready straight away.
“They did have a threat with the pace upfront but I thought we dealt with it well.
“We started the game a bit slow and conceded early.
“As the game went on we knew we had to step it up.
“Towards the end we were comfortable.”
Nico said he had been working with Brentford Assistant Manager David Weir to improve.
He said he needed to get used to Brentford’s style and to the game in League One.
Nico said Brentford Manager Mark Warburton had told him to go on against Coventry, play his normal game and bring energy to the team.
“It is important for me to put extra sessions in,” said the right back.
“I have to get used to the style of play and League One football.
“It is very different.
“I have asked David to do extra sessions with me to improve my all-round game.
“I always give 100 per cent when I come on.
“It paid off for me.
“I was told to want the ball and play.
“I tried to bring energy to the team.”
Nico told Bees Player: Match Day Live what it was like to work with Mark Warburton.
“Mark is a very calm person,” he said.
“He does not rant and rave, he has trust in his players.
“He believes in us and we believe in ourselves.
“It is nice to have a manager that will do that.”
