Brentford B Head Coach Neil MacFarlane was pleased to see more progression from his young group during Wednesday’s 2-0 win over Bournemouth Under-21s.
The young Bees sealed victory over the Cherries with goals from Alex Gilbert and Tristan Crama in a match they controlled through large spells.
“We had good control of the game in and out of possession,” explained Neil. “It was a really accomplished performance which we took up a level from a really good performance against Millwall, so it’s pleasing.
“We were solid, we started as a 4-3-3 and when we flipped into the 3-4-3 we were very good again. We locked them in many, many times throughout the course of the 90 minutes. We scored twice and we have to keep building on that because there are still moments where we have to keep improving in the final third.”
Neil was also keen to praise midfielder Alex Gilbert for his contribution to the match as he scored and assisted in an impressive display from the 20-year-old.
“We spoke to the players before the game about the starting positions that they take up. I thought Alex in particular had some really good moments,” said Neil. “Even towards the end he played a terrific ball in behind for Kyreece (Lisbie) which led to a corner kick, and he then provided a top delivery for Tristan (Crama) to score. His goal was also brilliant from a good weighted pass and he got in and pulled off a terrific finish. We’ve got to keep improving, slowly but surely over the last three games we’ve been able to see the team functioning in the way that we want.
“That’s our job as a coaching staff and players. We have brilliant buy in from the players as has always been the case through the course of pre-season, we’ll see the team build momentum and hopefully we can continue that because we are in a good vein of form.”
