Neil Greig spends his working life with footballers that have suffered as they do their best for Brentford Football Club.
Now he will be putting his best foot forward and going through the pain barrier himself.
The Club’s Head of Medical will be one of tens of thousands of people pounding the streets of London in the name of sport and charity next month.
The 2015 Virgin London Marathon takes place on Sunday April 26 and approaching 40,000 people will run from Blackheath to The Mall and cover the 26.2 mile course.
Neil will be one of those and he will be raising money for Havens Hospices, a charity that provides respite and care for adults and children at the end of their lives.
When a family has been told that there’s no cure for their loved one’s illness, Havens Hospices can help.
The charity can make the journey as comfortable as possible, controlling pain and medication, offering respite and caring for adults and children at the end of their lives.
They offer free specialist care – for as long as is needed – within the home and at two hospices.
Haven Hospices is not part of the NHS and receives limited government funding.
The hospices can only exist because of the support and generosity of the community.
Neil said: “Our masseur Chris Domoney is an experienced marathon runner and he works with Havens Hospices and has done for a number of years.
“When an opportunity came up to run the marathon for a charity I wanted to choose one we had a close link with.
“I have seen some of the fantastic work they do and I’m proud to run for them.
"This is the first marathon I've attempted and I'm not a natural runner, so it's really stretching my comfort zones.
"Any support that the Brentford fans can offer would be fantastic."
Neil has set himself a target of £4,000 and is already approaching £3,000.
