Brentford fans have helped raise a large six-figure sum for charity by getting on their bikes. Prostate Cancer UK ran its annual Football League ride this weekend and Graham Goodden and Gabriel Jones from Brentford Football Club Community Sports Trust were among those who took part.
Graham, the Trust’s Kicks and Street Sports Coordinator, and Gabriel, a Multi-Sports Coach at the Trust, were Brentford’s official representatives – Club Champions – on the challenge and also represented the Trust. They were joined by other Brentford fans, who also completed the challenge. Roy Beckerson, Adam Rontaler and Ben Lanning were among those who also finished the ride and have helped raise £305,000 so far.
The third London to Amsterdam challenge, which saw hundreds of football fans join many others with a football connection to ride 145 miles, began just after dawn on Friday, 12 June. The star-studded peloton left Leyton Orient FC in the early hours and had a half-time pit-stop at Colchester United FC before they ended day one at Harwich.
They headed for Holland on a ferry overnight and rode to the finish at the Amsterdam ArenA, home of Ajax, yesterday, Saturday 13 June. Images from the ride can be seen via the the Football League ride photo gallery.
Prostate cancer kills one man every hour in the UK, and last year riders from more than 50 clubs helped raise more than £200,000 to support the 250,000 men affected by the disease in the UK. The charity has surpassed that this time and fans can still give more.
