Goalkeeper Simon Moore said Brentford’s players were “very disappointed” not to have beaten Leyton Orient.
The Bees drew 2-2 with their East London neighbours on a freezing night at Griffin Park, one full of incident.
Brentford fell behind when Martin Rowlands lashed in a free kick from 35 yards but got themselves ahead through goals from Paul Hayes and Clayton Donaldson, both scored when the visitors failed to deal with corners.
Brentford had a penalty appeal turned down early in the second half and Jake Bidwell was sent off for a second bookable offence.
Orient were awarded a spot kick that David Mooney took and Simon saved but the visitors levelled with four minutes remaining through Lee Cook.
The draw came days after npower League One leaders Tranmere Rovers won 2-1 at Griffin Park and just before an FA Cup with Budweiser Fourth Round tie against Chelsea.
“We are very disappointed,” said Simon, speaking to Bees Player after the match.
“After Saturday we wanted to get a win.
“It was difficult, conditions were difficult and these are the games we have to win.
“Thankfully we got a point, we will take that.
“We have a big game on Sunday.
“Then we will concentrate on the main thing, the league.
“We did very well to get back in to the game after going behind, credit to the lads, that’s the spirit we have here.
“It’s unfortunate we didn’t get a win but we got another point to add to the tally.
“That’s 50 points now; there is a long way to go.
“It will be a very important three months.”
Simon said he was disappointed not to save the opener but delighted with his penalty stop.
He hailed fellow goalkeeper Richard Lee and Goalkeeper Coach Simon Royce for their words before the match.
Simon said he was disappointed not to save a Tranmere penalty on Saturday and wanted to put it right.
“I set my standards very high,” said the goalkeeper.
“I am disappointed with every goal that goes in; I look at what I could have done better.
“The free kick took a slight flick off Clayton’s shoulder.
“I am disappointed I didn’t save it but I don’t think anyone will look at me.
“Before the game I spoke to Richard Lee about the penalty on Saturday.
“I was disappointed I did not go the right way, I think I should save everything.
“I asked Rich and Simon Royce, they said to go to my right.
“I have them to thank for the save.
“I was delighted to turn the ball away, if we had held on for the win it would have been very important.
“I think that was the best penalty save I have made.
“It was disappointing they equalised.
“He scuffed it; it faded in to the corner.
“We can’t dwell on it; we have to keep working hard.”
Simon described the upcoming game against Chelsea as a “bonus” and said Brentford felt they could win.
“It will be a huge occasion,” he said.
“The fans are really excited.
“I haven’t thought about it, we had games to think about and the most important thing is the league.
“It is a bonus and we will go in with belief we can win.
“Chelsea won’t like coming to Griffin Park.”
