Montell Moore said he could never have expected the start to the season that he has had but is keen to push on and get back into Mark Warburton’s First-Team match day plans.
The 18-year-old, who only turned professional in the summer, was playing Youth Team football less than six months ago but found himself on the bench for the first four of Brentford’s games in the Sky Bet Championship.
Montell, who has been at the club since the age of seven, made his debut in The Bees Capital One Cup win away at Dagenham & Redbridge, scoring the fifth goal.
The attacker has not been involved in Brentford’s match day squad for the past few games but has been told he is still very much a part of the group.
Speaking to Bees Player Montell said: “If you had spoken to me before the season started I wouldn’t have expected to be in this position now.
“I think I have worked hard and hopefully I can keep going.
“The management staff have just said that I have to keep up what I have been doing and my chance will come.
“As long as I am doing what I have been doing then there is nothing more that I can do except do more of the same.”
Montell was speaking after Brentford’s Development Squad’s 1-1 draw with Sheffield Wednesday on Monday.
Despite dominating Brentford fell behind just before the hour after Matt Penney’s wonderstrike from outside the box.
Montell played a key role in The Bees equaliser as it was his cross which was turned home by Betinho for his first goal in Brentford colours.
Montell thought The Bees were at least worth the point and should have taken all three.
Coming off the back of a few disappointing results Montell was pleased with the character the team showed in their improved performance.
“I think we were good going forward but we didn’t make enough clear cut chances,” said Montell.
“We had a few chances like Betinho’s one in the first-half, I had a few shots as did a couple of others but we didn’t convert.
“Overall coming off the back of a couple of heavy defeats and some hard days on the training ground, where we really came together, it was much better.
“We all got together and did a job for the team.
“I thought it was a one-sided game and they went long.
“They played it at the back then as soon as it got into the midfield it went long so we thought we would press high and get them to go long.
“We would get the second balls and play our style of play.
“In the last couple of games the defence hasn’t been the greatest and the attack hasn’t been helping out the defence but I think today we all came together and we did well.”
The Bees dominated the game in terms of territory and possession without being able to find the route to goal.
Montell was pleased with the threat both he, and the team as a whole, posed the visitors defence even if he felt they should have taken more than the one chance which they did.
“I feel like I could have done a bit more and got a goal but I blazed one over,” said Montell.
“I thought I did quite well beating players, which is what I enjoy doing, and it wasn’t one of my worst games.
“I have been working on situations where I can be one-on-one with a defender because that is my style of game.
“It has paid off so I am pleased.
“They felt threatened once we got into the box because if they did tackle us and we went down it would either be a penalty or a free-kick on the edge of the box.
“They kind of dropped off and let us have it.
“At the same time we didn’t convert our chances.
“I thought we did play really well and create some chances.”
