Montell Moore said Brentford’s Development Squad showed their belief was rising with a comprehensive win over Bristol City.
The Bees came from a goal down to beat City 5-1 on Monday afternoon.
Montell, who spoke to Bees Player after the match, scored two of the goals, levelling soon after City had gone in front and then adding a fifth late on.
It was Brentford’s first win at Under-21 Professional Development League Two level since September and their first under new Development Squad Manager Lee Carsley.
Montell said The Bees did not start well on Monday but once they got up and running they did not stop.
He said Carsley had told the players to believe in themselves and, after ending a run of two straight losses with a draw against Colchester United last week, now they had shown what they could do.
“We have been experiencing a few losses in the past few weeks,” said Montell.
“We have a new manager and hew has been telling us to believe in ourselves.
“He knows that we are good enough.
“We are starting to believe and it shows, we are scoring more goals and conceding less.
“We didn’t start well and didn’t want bit to affect us as it has done in the past.
“We wanted to bounce back and get a goal and then another.
“Once we started, we didn’t stop.
“We have started to become more of a team, which is helping us massively.
“We didn’t start off too well but got in to the game.
“I believe we were the better side.
“We showed it and scored a lot of goals.”
City scored when Raphaël Calvet turned a cross in to his own net but Montell levelled with a curling shot after picking up a Courtney Senior cross.
Daniel O’Shaughnessy headed in a corner, Sam Saunders curled in a free kick and Jermaine Udumaga scored from the penalty spot as Brentford dominated.
The Bees grabbed a fifth when Montell played a short corner and then volleyed in when Louis Hutton’s reverse pass flicked a defender and fell back to him.
“For the first goal I took it too far,” Montell explained.
“I realised I had done that and cut back and curled it.
“It went in.
“Once we got that goal I felt we would get more.
“For the fifth I played a short corner, Louis flicked it back and it was headed up in the air.
“I was too tired to bring it down, I hit it on the volley and it flew in.
“I was pleased but I think I’ve scored better.”
Montell said Saunders, Nico Yennaris and James Tarkowski being in team helped the younger players.
“The older players keep us together,” he said.
“They are always talking so it encourages you to talk.
“When everyone is talking, you can help others with their jobs.”
Montell said his season had been very good so far and he knew what he had to do to progress.
The 18-year-old turned professional this summer and was awarded a new three-year contract earlier in the season.
He made his professional debut in a Capital One Cup win against Dagenham and Redbridge, scoring one and making three, and has been an unused substitute on six more occasions this term.
“I am trying to impress the First Team staff, I want to get in to the squad,” he said.
“It is better to play like this when they are there to see it.
“The start of the season went very well for me.
“It is still going well and I am learning but the team are doing well so it is hard to get in.
“I have to keep going and hopefully get back in the squad.
“I have meetings and I know my targets.
“I know what I have to do to get in the team.”
