James Tarkowski said Brentford’s failure to beat Milton Keynes Dons on Monday was a “massive disappointment”.
The Bees drew 2-2 in Buckinghamshire on Easter Monday despite leading 2-0 inside the final 15 minutes.
James scored the first, when MK goalkeeper David Martin dropped a corner on his foot, and Clayton Donaldson made it two in the second half.
The home side were awarded a penalty late on and then equalised in stoppage time.
James, speaking to Bees Player: Match Day Live after the match, said The Bees wanted to win as many games as they could and to not win that one was disappointing.
“The penalty changed the game, they got some momentum in the last ten minutes,” said the defender.
“We were sloppy and disappointed to concede the goals.
“It is a massive disappointment.
“We wanted to push on and win the games for the fans.
“There was a large following today and to concede two latish goals is disappointing.
“We want to keep pushing on and win as many games as we can, get as many points as we can.
“We are not going to give up so a draw today was disappointing.”
James scored his second Brentford goal in his 11th appearance for The Bees since signing from Oldham Athletic.
He said it was nice to score a goal but said he did not feel he had played at his best at MK.
Brentford have only conceded one goal in the time James has been on the pitch and the defender said he was happy with his form overall.
“I have been pleased with how I have played recently,” he said.
“I wasn’t pleased today, I was a bit off it.
“Maybe that is because of the games close together.
“Scoring from a set piece is what I am up there for.
“It is always nice to get a goal.
“Apart from today I have been pleased, there have been clean sheets and that is what I am here to do.”
James said the strength of the squad was the reason The Bees had won promotion.
“I came to Brentford to play in The Championship,” he said.
“I am very pleased we have done it.
“The squad is fantastic, even when we make changes we perform to the top level.
“That is what has got us promoted.
“Players come in when there are injuries and suspensions and the quality doesn’t drop.”
