The first-team were the victims of their own downfall at Hayes Lane as Serena Guardino’s under-hit backpass allowed Bromley's striker to nip in for the only goal of the game in the first-half. The closest Brentford came to a leveller was when Jenn Amols Brett’s long-range free-kick cannoned off the post late on. The defeat also came at a price for The Bees with Sophie Lee carried off in the first-half.
Sunday’s loss means it’s now seven without a win for The Bees who are starting to look nervously over their shoulders in the lower reaches of the Greater London Women’s Football League Division One. Things don’t get much easier with two games against second-placed Ashford Town, the first of those coming in the John Greenacre Memorial Trophy next Sunday, either side of a league visit from fourth-placed Clapham United, still to come this month.
There are no such concerns for Brentford Development whose fantastic run of form continued on Sunday with a 2-0 win on Hackney Marshes against Hackney Womens Reserves. Gel Burgess’s sixth of the season and a Gemma Goodwin strike secured a fourth straight win for Nathan Mobey and Justin Ali’s side. The three points elevated The Bees to third in the table, two points off the promotion places, with four games to play.
As with the first-team, the league campaign takes a back seat next weekend for the Development Team with Actonians Development heading to Lampton School in the Sue Sharples Memorial Trophy.
