So Finals day arrived at the Dale Farm Milk Cup with Brentford's Under-15s going for the Globe Final while the Under-17s were in the 3rd/4th Play-Off in their Globe competition.
It was an early start as the Under-15s were in action in Limavady at 11am against Premier League Academy flag-bearers Southampton.
With their recent conveyor belt producing players like Luke Shaw, Adam Lallana and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain Southampton are probably the most successful Academy in English Football right now.
However, they were no match for a young Brentford side that cut them apart time after time.
4-0 did in no way flatter Brentford and it could have been more.
Juan Pablo Gonzales Velasco scored two stunning goals to draw him level with Joshua Bohui on six for the tournament, one behind the tournament's top scorer.
Brentford's Under-15s ended the tournament with four wins from five games scoring 14 goals in the process.
Much as the boys were delighted with their win deep down they knew they should have been in the top cup just showing the desire within the squad.
After a quick trip around Coleraine it was on to the Under-17s game in Broughshane against Cherry Orchard.
Back-to-back defeats had knocked the stuffing out of The Bees and they were again on the wrong end of a late goal, going down 3-2 to the Irish side.
Both squads then went off to watch the Junior Final between Corinthians and Co. Antrim in Ballymena.
If anything watching that proved just how much Brentford's Under-15s deserved to be in the top cup.
Corinthians were too strong and powerful for Antrim but the feeling in the camp was that The Bees would have given them a very good run for their money.
Once everyone returned and a few arrangements for departure had been made it was time for the off-the-field highlight of the trip: Brentford's Got Talent.
It was fair to say some of the acts impressed the judges more than others but everybody threw themselves into the occasion and it was a good end to the week.
Just before lights out Ose Aibangee, Academy Director, spoke to the players and thanked them for their hard work and behaviour over the week.
One of the standout themes throughout the week was the closeness between the two squads, with the more experienced Under-17s helping the Under-15 through the week, and that was something that impressed Ose too.
There was one last treat in store for the staff after lights out however.
Analyst Xarius Desai had missed his initiation in front of the players and staff so it was decided he would perform in front of the staff with the video being shown to the players the next morning: fair to say it was worth the wait.
The video will appear on Bees Player and YouTube in the coming days so I won't spoil the surprise but, trust me, it is an incredibly entertaining two minutes.
With that completed the trip was at an end with only the journey home to look forward to.
Overall the trip was one of mixed emotions for the squad as both teams performed well for large parts of the week but, and it is a lesson these players will learn, luck is a huge part of tournament football.
A roll of the ball here or there could have seen both Brentford teams into the top cups but with the Under-15s finishing fifth, above Liverpool, Southampton and Everton, and the Under-17s finishing eighth it was another impressive, positive week for the Academy.
