Maxime Colin thought Brentford lost all the key battles as they were beaten 3-1 at Griffin Park by Burnley on Friday evening. The visitors raced into a 3-0 lead before the break and, despite an Alan Judge goal ten minutes into the second-half , held on to inflict a fourth straight defeat on The Bees. Speaking to Bees Player after the match Maxime said that the performance against The Clarets was nowhere near good enough in the first-half.
“We are really disappointed because the first-half, at home, was not good,” said Maxime. “We can’t play like that at home. We lost all the first duels and the second balls and they were more aggressive than us. We lost a lot of easy balls and not a lot of things were good in the first-half. They scored three beautiful goals and they are lucky about that but they deserved the win tonight.
“We couldn’t have been worse than the first-half so we wanted to show what we could do in the second-half. We wanted to win the second-half and we had nothing to lose. We have now lost two games at home. We played well against Middlesbrough but we lost and then we lost tonight so we have to work hard in training to win games.”
The French right-back, signed from Anderlecht in the summer, felt that his side needed to battle more, rather than just rely on their football, to take anything from the game.
“We were not aggressive enough off the ball because we lost all the duels,” said Maxime. “In football if you lose all the duels you can’t win a game. You have to run a lot and be aggressive to win games. You can’t only win games by playing nice football. You have to run and be aggressive to expect to get anything.”
Maxime has only recently returned from a knee-injury sustained in training back in September. The former French Under-20 international missed three months of the season after picking up the injury and admits he is still working back to full fitness.
“I am not in pain any more so that is good,” said Maxime. “I am not used to being injured, this is really my first injury, so it is a new thing for me. I need to get my fitness back and I need to train and play again and again to be 100 per cent. I am happy now because I have no pain but I need to be fit.”
