Maxime Colin revealed it was a very disappointed home dressing room at full-time this afternoon as Brentford suffered their first home defeat of the season after a 2-0 loss against Barnsley. The away side took the lead on the half-hour through Adam Armstrong and then wrapped up the points with just over 20 minutes to play when Sam Winnall tapped home after Ryan Kent’s shot had hit the post. Speaking after the game at Griffin Park Maxime said it had been a very disappointing day especially given The Bees recent good record at home.
“We are used to playing well at home, especially this season,” Maxime told Bees Player after the final whistle. “Everyone is disappointed. We conceded two goals we shouldn’t concede and had some chances that we didn’t take. It is a bad day for us especially as it was our 4,000th game. We are really disappointed for the fans. Now we have two derbies coming up and we have to change some things to win those games.”
The Bees dominated possession against The Tykes this afternoon but came no closer to scoring than when Maxime struck the bar late on. The French defender felt the two tough away trips to Newcastle United and Derby County had taken a lot out of the team but admitted they should have been better regardless.
“We were maybe a little tired from the two games this week but at home this shouldn’t be a problem,” said Maxime. “We need to work harder in training to simply be better. We created chances but didn’t score. Maybe we have to be more aggressive on the pitch to make sure we don’t concede goals. I was a little disappointed today because I should have given an assist and I hit the crossbar. I expected better and I could have done better with those.”
Next up for the team is a trip to Loftus Road on Friday night for a local derby showdown against Queens Park Rangers. Maxime feels the buzz of a local derby will help to get fans and players back up after today’s disappointing result.
“We will work hard this week to be ready for Friday and the big derby,” said Maxime. “A derby match is good to bring back the positive energy for the fans. We need to switch our mentality and be better. It is a derby so there is a little bit extra but even if it wasn’t a derby we know that we should change some things that will help us.”
