Maxime Colin believes that he has settled well in West London and hopes that will bring the best out of his game as he prepares for Saturday’s Sky Bet Championship match against Reading at Griffin Park.
The right-back joined The Bees last week from Belgian giants Anderlecht and made his debut as a substitute in the 1-0 defeat at Burnley last Saturday.
Now with a full week of training alongside his new teammates under his belt Maxime feels that he is settling well off the pitch and that will help him on the pitch.
“We have trained well before Saturday’s match and I am starting to get to know all my teammates,” said Maxime. “I am getting to know the town more and I have found my flat. Everything is easy now and this week I am thinking only about football. I have trained well and I hope I can carry that into the game. When you can concentrate just on your football that is very good.
“It was a quick transfer because I was in Anderlecht and then two days later I was here with all my life packed up with me. Now I have turned that page and I am a Brentford player and being a Belgian player and an Anderlecht player are in my past. When I first arrived I was a little bit quiet so that I could see how the team and the club work. Now I am really inside the group and I want to be in the team to help the club achieve their objectives.”
Maxime made his Brentford bow at Turf Moor last weekend as Michael Keane’s first-half header consigned Brentford to a first league defeat of the season.
The 23-year-old impressed coming off the bench and hopes that he, and the team, can build on that performance ahead of the visit of Reading.
“I was really happy to play my first minutes last week,” said Maxime. “I have come here to play a lot of games so I hope to play as many games as possible. After the game I was a little bit disappointed because we lost 1-0 but I played a few minutes getting used to my teammates so I hope it will be better for the next game. We had a lot of the ball against Burnley and we had opportunities to score, especially in the first-half. We only lost the game because of a corner so we have to be really careful from corners and free-kicks. We are a team who needs to find a way to score and then keep a clean sheet.”
Saturday’s match at home to Reading will be Maxime’s first chance to play in front of the fans at Griffin Park.
The French Under-20 defender said he can’t wait to experience the atmosphere at Griffin Park and wants to pick up three points in front of the home fans.
“I hope that I will play my first home game on Saturday,” said Maxime. “My friends tell me that the fans are very loud and strongly behind the team. I hope we can play a good game against Reading in front of our fans to get the three points that we lost in Burnley. It is important that we don’t lose points on the teams above us.”
