The season so far
Wolverhampton Wanderers lie in 12th place before tonight’s game with Brentford, with both sides knowing a victory would propel either up the Sky Bet Championship table. A win for Brentford will take them up to 14th position, above Fulham. Conversely a Wolves win will see them in ninth spot, three points off the Play-Offs.
Wolves started the new season with a win at Blackburn Rovers on 8 August but results since then have been patchy. Prior to Sunday’s 4-2 defeat at Derby County, they had gone on a four-match unbeaten run.
Head Coach Kenny Jackett was relatively quiet in the transfer market in the last transfer window, with only four permanent signings arriving at Molineux, and three season long loans. Jed Wallace [Portsmouth], Sylvain Deslandes [Caen], Conor Coady [Huddersfield Town] and ex-loan Bee Nathan Byrne [Swindon Town] were all signed for undisclosed fees. Striker Adam le Fondre [Cardiff City], Sheyi Ojo [Liverpool] and Emiliano Martinez [Arsenal] are spending one season on loan at Molineux.
The Gaffer
Kenny Jackett has been Wolverhampton Wanderers Head Coach since 2013. He masterminded their League One title victory in 2014, and just failed to get them into the Championship Play-Offs last season. He started his managerial career at Watford, but was succeded by Graham Taylor. He spent three successful years at Swansea City, getting them promoted to the Championship in 2007.
Moving to Millwall in late 2007, he got them promoted to the Championship via the Play-Offs in 2010. Named as Wolves Head Coach in May 2013, they set a new divisional points record of 103 and was named joint-winner of the LMA Awards Manager of the Year for League One.
