The season so far
Bolton’s season can be described as nothing but a disappointing one, with the Club propping up the Sky Bet Championship table. They are also in the midst of a potential change of owner, following the long tenure by Eddie Davies.
Under manager Neil Lennon, Bolton have only won one game so far, at home to Wolverhampton Wanderers on 12 September, and have lost four games out of the previous six. They also crashed out of the Capital One Cup at the first attempt at home to Burton Albion in August, losing 1-0. They currently sit bottom of the table, five points adrift from safety.
Lennon made several signings over the summer transfer window, bringing in: Ben Amos [Manchester United]; Gary Madine [Sheffield Wednesday]; Derik Osede [Real Madrid]; Jon Ceberio [Real Sociedad]; Jordan Lussey [Liverpool]; Stephen Dobbie [Crystal Palace] Lawrie Wilson [Charlton Athletic]; Francesco Pisano [Cagliari]; Jose Manuel Casando [Almeria]; Paul Rachubka [Crewe Alexandra], and Shola Ameobi [Crystal Palace].
Lennon also signed three long term loanees: Prince-Désir Gouano [Atalanta], Wellington Silva [Arsenal] and Luke Brattan [Manchester City]. Through the out door, 19 players left the Macron Stadium, with only four [Alex Baptiste], Sanmi Odelusi, Tim Ream, and Andy Kellett realising transfer fees.
The Gaffer
Neil Lennon is struggling to find success in his first managerial job in England after leaving Celtic in the summer of 2014. He was a regular at Crewe Alexandra before he was sold to Leicester City, where he scored six league goals in 170 appearances.
He moved to Celtic in 2000 and was a regular for seven years, scoring three goals in 214 games before ending his playing career in England with Nottingham Forest and Wycombe Wanderers.
Celtic offered him his first managerial job and finished a point behind Old Firm rivals Glasgow Rangers in his first full season in charge. He won the Scottish league the following year with Rangers’ financial problems breaking up the Old Firm duopoly in the Scottish Premier League. Lennon’s best achievements though came in the Champions League where Celtic stunned Barcelona in 2012.
He left after a third title and took charge of Bolton in October 2014 but fields a side tonight that haven't won for eleven matches.
