The Season So Far
The Dons welcome Brentford to Stadium:MK this afternoon knowing that anything less than maximum points will ensure that their stay in the Sky Bet Championship ends after just one season. MK are currently nine points from safety with three games remaining after failing to win any of their last eight league matches.
MK have won just once at home, a 2-0 victory over Queens Park Rangers, since mid-January although they did pick up a creditable 0-0 draw away at Sheffield Wednesday on Tuesday to follow up Saturday’s extraordinary 1-1 stalemate against Preston North End: Striker Alex Revell saving a late penalty after Cody Cropper had been sent off to keep MK's survival hopes alive.
After adding a wealth of Football League experience in the summer The Dons were quieter in the January transfer window with Revell (Cardiff City), Jay Emmanuel-Thomas (Queens Park Rangers), Jonathan Williams (Crystal Palace), and Jake Forster-Caskey (Brighton and Hove Albion) the only additions, the latter trio signing loan deals until the end of the season.
Going the other way permanently in January were Christian Benavente (Charleroi) and Sergio Aguza (Ponferridina) while Ben Tilney (Brackley), Lee Hodson (Kilmarnock), Giorgio Rasulo (Aldershot), Simon Church (Aberdeen), and Tom Hitchcock (Crewe Alexandra) departed on loan. Former Bayern Munich starlet Dale Jennings was also released by MK in February.
The Gaffer
Karl Robinson is the longest serving manager in the Championship, third longest in the Football League behind Arsène Wenger and Paul Tisdale, after being in charge of The Dons for over five and a half years.
After retiring early from football with a back injury, he worked in Liverpool’s academy for eight years before making a step up to first team coach in Buckinghamshire under Paul Ince. He followed the former Manchester United captain to Blackburn but the duo soon returned, with Robinson making the step up to assistant manager. When Ince resigned, he assumed the role he continues today.
