Brentford B head to Scotland to face Hibernian on Wednesday afternoon in a 12:30pm kick-off. The match will be played behind closed doors at our opponent’s training centre.
Neil MacFarlane’s side were last in action against Fulham Under-21s a couple of weeks ago and they will now head north of the border to take on Hibernian’s Development Squad to test themselves.
About Hibernian
Recent results have seen Hibernian’s Development Squad take on the likes of Brechin City, as they were beaten 4-1 on penalties meaning they were knocked out of the SPFL Trust Trophy. The side have also tasted pre-season action against Queens Park where their opponents took away a 4-2 win. Late July saw the side claim a 6-1 win over Dunbar United as the young team readied themselves for the 2022/23 season.
What the opposition say
Steve Kean head ups the Development Squad as Academy Director, and he is looking forward to a test against the young Bees.
He said: “This will be a really good test and is an excellent fixture for us. Brentford have a distinct identity, which will be something totally different for us to face.
“They’re dynamic, technical and play at a high intensity; that intensity is a big selling point. Any side that is in or around the Premier League will consistently play with that high tempo, so our lads will have to adapt to that. Alongside this, they’ll have to deal with all of Brentford’s quality in the final third.”
Team news
The young Bees have been hard at work over the past couple of weeks at Jersey Road as Neil MacFarlane and his staff continue to mould the squad for the 2022/23 season. New signings Tony Yogane and Isaac Holland could well feature whilst Lucias Vine, who netted three times in pre-season, will look to continue his impressive scoring run.
The last trip
The B Team faced Hibernian Reserves twice in the 2019/20 season, both home and away. The most recent game was played at Bedfont Sports as the Scottish side claimed a 2-0 win.
In October 2019 the sides met at Easter Road when Hibs edged it with a 3-2 win in what was an entertaining affair. A difficult first half an hour saw the home side put themselves into a three-goal lead through Olli Shaw and Josh Campbell. The Bees pulled a goal back when Jaden Brissett found the net from the penalty spot, before Gustav Mogensen netted his third in two games with a powerful effort in the second half. The side pushed to get level but were unfortunate despite a flurry of chances later in the game.
