Brentford take on Charlton Athletic at The Valley tomorrow with the home side struggled to recapture their early season form. The Addicks have lost six out of their last eight league games, including a 3-0 home defeat against Preston North End on Tuesday.
They lie in the Sky Bet Championship relegation zone in 22nd place. The season started well with a 2-0 home victory over Queens Park Rangers , and did not lose their first match until the end of August at Wolverhampton Wanderers.
It was a summer of change for Charlton as they moved on almost a squad’s worth of talent. A total of 20 players left The Valley permanently, including Joe Gomez who signed for Liverpool in an initial deal worth around £3.5m.
They signed Simon Makienok [Palermo] and ex- Bee Conor McAleny [Everton] signed on loan in the last transfer window. They have also made six permanent signings: Patrick Bauer [Marítimo], El-Hadji Ba [Sunderland], Ahmed Kashi [Metz], Cristian Ceballos [Tottenham Hotspur], Zakarya Bergdich [Real Valladolid], Naby Sarr [Sporting CP].
The Gaffer
Guy Luzon was appointed Charlton Athletic manager in January 2013. The 40-year-old Israeli spent most of his coaching career in his home country before being appointed Head Coach at Belgian club Standard Liège in 2013. He guided Standard to a second place finish in the 2013/14 Belgian League, which ensured their qualification for the 2014/15 UEFA Champions League. In October 2014 Luzon left Standard.
