Burnley have yet to register a win in the Sky Bet Championship following their demotion from the Premier League last season. They are 19th in the table, having drawn two and lost one of their opening three matches.
They started their campaign with a 1-1 draw at Leeds United, Sam Vokes scoring a later equaliser after Mirco Antenucci had put the home side ahead three minutes earlier. The Clarets opening home match also ended in a draw, this time with Birmingham City, who were leading 2-1 at Turk Moor before Matt Taylor’s 81st minute goal. On Tuesday they lost 2-0 at leaders Ipswich Town.
Their Capital One Cup campaign ended at the first attempt, losing 1-0 at Port Vale in Round One.
Manager Sean Dyche has been active in the transfer market in the summer, making nine permanent signings. Former Brentford loan signing Chris Long signed from Everton, with Matthew Lowton [Aston Villa], Jelle Vossen [Genk], Tendayi Darikwa [Chesterfield], Luke Hendrie [Derby County], Renny Smith [Arsenal], Josh Ginnelly [Shrewsbury Town] and Rouwen Hennings [Karlsruher] following Long to Turf Moor.
Leaving Burnley this summer was Danny Ings, sold to Liverpool, with Kieran Tripper moving to Tottenham Hotspur together with Jason Shackell [Derby County] and Alex Cisak [Leyton Orient]. Defender Steven Reid also announced his retirement this summer after 17 years as a professional.
The Gaffer
Sean Dyche has been manager of Burnley since October 2012. He enjoyed success in his playing career as a centre back with Chesterfield, playing 231 games in a seven year period in the 1990s. After playing for Bristol City, Millwall, Watford, and Northampton Town, he joined Watford Academy set-up, becoming manger in 2011.
He was displaced a year later on the club’s change of ownership despite taking the club to their highest finish in four years. He was appointed Burnley’s manager after Eddie Howe left Turf Moor to re-join AFC Bournemouth. Dyche led Burnley to the Premier League in 2014, finishing runners-up to Leicester City.
