Tony Craig described Brentford’s 3-2 Sky Bet League One victory over Peterborough United as a “massive win”.
The Bees came from 2-1 down with ten minutes remaining to beat their fellow promotion-chasers.
They had gone ahead in the first half but Peterborough struck twice in 90 seconds around the hour mark.
Brentford levelled with a goal credited to George Saville, although Will Grigg is claiming it, and Clayton Donaldson scored a late winner.
The win was Brentford’s fifth in a row at home and extended their unbeaten run to eight in all competitions, seven of which have been wins.
It also came a few days after The Bees had drawn 0-0 away from home against League One leaders Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Tony admitted Brentford weren’t at their best but he was very happy with four points from games against Wolves and Peterborough.
“It is a massive win and a massive week for us,” said Tony, speaking to Bees Player.
“Four points from games against Wolves and Peterborough, we would have taken that and I am glad we achieved it.
“It must have been a great game to watch for the spectators, it was end to end with lots of goals.
“It was a good game to be involved in too.
“We played some nice stuff.
“It probably wasn’t our best performance but we have come away with three points so we will take that.
“I would have snapped your hand off for four points from these two before we started.
“We had a good performance at Wolves and came away a bit disappointed but there won’t be many teams that get a 0-0 there.
“Our fitness also showed today in the last 15 minutes, we will go to the end.”
Brentford went in ahead at half time as Gabriel Zakuani headed an Alan McCormack cross past his own goalkeeper.
But Peterborough started the second half well.
They equalised when Jack Payne smashed in from 25 yards and Britt Assombalonga raced on to a Tyrone Barnett flick on to make it 2-1.
Those goals were the first Brentford had conceded in five weeks, after five clean sheets in a row.
Tony said Peterborough were a potent attacking force and Brentford now wanted to start another good defensive run.
“You have to expect a team to come at you,” said the defender.
“Peterborough have very good forwards and they are a good team on the whole.
“You know they will have possession at times.
“It was unfortunate they scored two when they were on top but it shows the team spirit we have and thankfully we came through.
“The first goal was a great finish and sometimes you can’t defend those.
“We will look at the second one as a back four.
“Peterborough had everything in attack.
“They went long, short, played it round us and had a very good front two.
“We knew their strengths and are disappointed to concede two goals.
“We have been on a good run defensively; hopefully we can start another one.”
Brentford equalised with ten minutes to go.
Alan McCormack crossed from the right and George Saville met it with a header, it hit the post and rolled along the line before ending up in the back of the net with Farid El Alagui, Will Grigg and Peterborough defender Michael Bostwick in there with it.
Tony said Will Grigg believed he got the last touch.
Clayton Donaldson scored the winner with a fine low finish with three minutes left.
Tony said there was never any concern on the pitch that the goals would come.
“We said we should keep doing what we were doing,” he continued.
“We know what we can do and we opened them up a few times.
“We didn’t panic, played out normal game and it prevailed.
“We want to put crosses in the box and get as many people in there as possible.
“I have been told it is Will’s goal.
“Clayton has been doing that since I have been here.
“He is a great outlet, he has pace to upset defenders and it fell to the right person.”
Tony almost got his name on the score sheet when he let fly from 25 yards but Robert Olejnik pushed it wide.
“I would still have been celebrating now if it had gone in,” he said.
“It was a good strike and a great save.
“The three points is most important.”
Brentford will be looking to extend their unbeaten run when they face Notts County away from home on Saturday.
County are bottom of League One but Tony said it made no difference to Brentford’s outlook/
“We will enjoy tonight, have a rest tomorrow and come in Thursday looking forward to Notts County,” he said.
“It doesn’t matter who we play, we will treat it as a normal game.
“We will know their strengths and weaknesses and go from there.
“We are thoroughly looking forward to it.”
