Martin Fillo said he enjoyed his first taste of English cup football.
The attacking midfield player joined Brentford this summer on a season long loan from Czech Republic side FC Viktoria Plzeň.
The Czech Republic international made his Brentford debut against Port Vale on Saturday and started the Capital One Cup First Round tie against Dagenham and Redbridge.
Martin scored Brentford’s second goal as they came from behind to lead 2-1.
The Daggers equalised but Farid El Alagui scored his second of the evening in stoppage time to give Brentford the win.
Martin, speaking to Bees Player after the match, said Manager Uwe Rösler and the back room staff had warned the players it would be a difficult evening and he was pleased Brentford got the win.
“I enjoyed it,” he said.
“I am very happy that we are through and we won.
“I did not want to underestimate Dagenham and Redbridge.
“They were really good, it was really tough.
“The gaffer and the staff told me there would be no difference between league matches and cup matches.
“I could see that today.”
Martin started on the right side of a front three but Brentford found it difficult in the early stages.
He was moved in behind striker Paul Hayes after around half an hour and The Bees improved.
Martin said he enjoyed the positional switch and felt good.
“Our system did not really work in the first 20 minutes,” he said.
“The gaffer changed it completely.
“We started to get better and we were more dangerous.
“It was a good move.
“I prefer to play on the right side but that didn’t work.
“I got better after we made the change.
“I felt good in the middle.”
It was from the central position that Martin got his goal.
He latched on to a Stuart Dallas pass, raced away and shot home with his left foot from 15 yards.
“It felt good to score,” said Martin.
“I needed the goal because I hadn’t scored in pre-season.
“It was a great assist from Stuart Dallas.
“He found me and I am happy that I scored.
“I want to be a winger that scores lots of goals, I want to score more.
“If I can do that it would be good for me and good for the team.”
The Czech Republic international, who has played three times for his country, linked up with The Bees at the pre-season training camp in Germany in July.
He then signed a season-long loan deal later in the month.
Martin said he knew he would have to battle for his place and would do all he could to secure a spot.
“I am very pleased to be here,” he said.
“The squad is really strong, the level is good and I am happy to be part of this club.
“We have so many good players.
“If I will start on the bench I will.
“I will do my maximum so that I can play.”
