Brentford Manager Mark Warburton has challenged his players to keep their shirts when The Bees start in The Championship in August.
Brentford won promotion from Sky Bet League One in the season that has just concluded.
They will be playing in the second tier in 2014/15, the first time they have been at that level since 1993.
Mark, during an extensive end-of-season interview with Bees Player, indicated he does not plan wholesale changes to his squad.
He said his players needed to come back for pre-season training hungry and ready to secure their places.
Mark added the squad could use the example of Brentford Assistant Manager David Weir.
David joined Everton in 1999 and spent many years fighting for his spot before eventually losing it to Phil Jagielka, who will play for England in the upcoming World Cup.
“It is up to the players,” said Mark.
“They have a chance to go away, enjoy their break but they have to come back hungry, in good shape for pre-season and lay down a marker.
“If there are one or two people that want their shirt, they have to keep it.
“David Weir told me he spent eight years at Everton and every year two centre halves came in.
“His job was to keep his shirt, and he did.
“It was only Phil Jagielka that took it off him.
“Our guys are good enough to do the same.”
Mark said Brentford were set up for life in the second tier but would always push to improve.
He added he was thankful for the opportunity to work with Brentford Owner Matthew Benham and the Board of Directors and hoped they trusted him to do what is best for the Club.
“We have a Championship staff, magnificent pitches but we have to keep moving forward,” he said.
“If we stand still we are finished.
“We need a bit more space.
“We could do with a bigger medical facility, for more players, bigger gym, analysis area where we can watch games.
“We are expanding but are on solid foundations.
“The good staff keep asking for more.
“The Club needs people that constantly want to improve.
“Sometimes the answer might be no but we will always push, that is what we have to do.
“I am thankful for the opportunity I have to work with the owner and the board but I hope they know I only ask for things we need.
“I would like to think they trust my judgement on staff and players so when I ask for something it is right for the Club.”
Brentford will kick off their Championship campaign on Saturday August 9.
Mark said he was looking forward to going to some of the biggest grounds in the country and playing some of the best-known teams like Norwich City, at Carrow Road, Leeds United, at Elland Road, and Blackburn Rovers, at Ewood Park.
“I am looking forward to the players, staff and supporters having the opportunity to taste that level and challenge themselves,” said Mark.
“Look at the grounds we will go to – Carrow Road, Cardiff City Stadium, Leeds, Nottingham Forest, Blackburn.
“It is exciting for the players and they will be fearless.
“They will go into every game confident.
“The supporters’ next year will be vital.
“Griffin Park was a fortress last year; we had a great home record.
“We need that support every home game, numbers on the road and some good performances.”
