Mark Warburton said Brentford need to go to Watford and impose themselves on the match.
The Bees travel to Hertfordshire this evening, Tuesday September 30, for a Sky Bet Championship match that will kick off at 7.45pm.
Watford have started the season well and sit fourth in the table while Brentford are 12th, but are only three points behind.
Mark said Watford are a strong attacking force – and they have scored 12 goals in four home league matches this term – but striker Troy Deeney, who has three goals this term, is out.
Watford can call upon Lloyd Dyer and Fernando Forestieri, who also have three goals each, as well as Matěj Vydra but Mark said Brentford had players that could impact a match as well.
“They are a strong attacking force,” said Mark, discussing the Watford match on Bees Player after Brentford beat Leeds United 2-0 on Saturday.
“I believe Deeney is missing but Vydra, Forestieri and Dyer are good players, I know about Sean Murray, who plays in behind.
“They are a good team.
“But it is a nice surface and so are we.
“We are winning games at home and away.
“We have shown what we can do, we need to impose ourselves and enjoy the game.
“When these players play with a smile on their faces, they do very well.”
Mark worked at Watford from 2005 until 2010, working as Academy Manager for around three years.
It will be the first time he has returned in a professional capacity since his departure.
“I am looking forward to it,” he said.
“A lot of the people I knew have gone.
“It will be great to go back there in this capacity.
“I very much hope the team go there and show the quality they have done today and can replicate that on Tuesday.”
After beating Leeds, Brentford face Watford and then Reading on Saturday to end a week of fixtures against teams with Premier League pedigree.
“This win sets us up nicely,” said Mark.
“Watford is a good game.
“We are aware of their threat but they are aware of ours as well.
“We have to recover well, rest and eat properly, go there and look to impose ourselves on the game.”
Jonathan Douglas, who set up two goals in the Leeds win, added: “Watford will be a difficult game but we are looking forward to it.
“Every team in this division will cause you some sort of problem.
“We have to believe in what we are capable of doing; take our performance from today in to Tuesday.
“We shouldn’t have a problem.”
