Brentford Manager Mark Warburton said a 12-minute spell cost his side dear at Bolton Wanderers.
The Bees were beaten 3-1 at the Macron Stadium yesterday afternoon.
They conceded the first goal just past the hour mark when Neil Danns lashed in from distance and Mark Davies scored a second just over ten minutes later.
Brentford fought back and Jon Toral reduced the arrears with seven minutes to go.
During a lengthy period of stoppage time, played due to Alan McCormack leaving the pitch on a stretcher, Brentford pressed but Bolton sealed the win through Craig Davies after David Button was caught up the pitch trying to score the equaliser.
Mark said his team believed they could win the match after getting to half time at 0-0 and started the second half positively but gave away a corner that got the home crowd going.
The momentum built and The Bees were soon 2-0 down.
“We came out really well in the second half,” said Mark.
“There was only one team in it in the first 15 minutes of the second half.
“We looked very positive.
“We gave away a sloppy corner that got the crowd going and changed the momentum a bit.
“We didn’t take care of the ball in that period.
“We have had a bad 12 minutes.
“David Button may not have been set for the first goal; we will have a look at that one again.
“The ball has fallen between two players for the second goal, which was too easy.
“That is a bad 12 minutes.
“They dropped deeper and we scored a good goal.
“At that point there was one team getting the next goal.
“We did really well and I am not worried about the third goal, we pushed everyone on, that is football.
“I am disappointed with a 12 minute spell, around that we were the better team.”
Bolton played with a diamond midfield against Brentford’s usual central trio and Mark said the home side tried to press high, which left gaps.
The Brentford boss said he expected Bolton, playing at home for the first time since Neil Lennon took over at the Macron Stadium, to come out fast after half time but The Bees appeared to have weathered it before conceding.
“They pressed us high and left a gap in midfield,” Mark explained.
“They wanted to stop us playing out and we had to be braver to get on the ball.
“When we did move the ball in the first half, we looked good.
“There were good set piece deliveries as well and we had chances, which we didn’t take.
“At 0-0 at half time we felt if we could get on the ball and make good decisions we would get some joy.
“We thought Neil would wind them up at half time and come out hard.
“We wanted to do that and I thought we did it well.
“There is a spell from 60 to 70 minutes where we have to be better.”
Mark said before the match he expected the home crowd to be behind Bolton, due to the managerial change.
He said his team needed to keep the ball better to quieten them down.
“We knew the crowd would be positive here,” said Mark.
“The way to quieten a crowd is to keep the ball, to take the sting out of a press you have to keep the ball.
“When we did that, we looked good.
“It’s frustrating we had a 12 minute spell.
“The corner on the far side sounds trivial but the crowd were desperate to latch on to something and they got momentum and belief.
“It was a bad goal to give away.”
Brentford introduced Toral, Tommy Smith and Toumani Diagouraga as they chased the game and moved Moses Odubajo to right back.
“We wanted to go three at the back without going three at the back, if you know what I mean, and push Mo on,” said Mark.
“Jon Toral came on and did well.
“I said he is training well and due a start but to be fair to the other boys, who do I leave out.
“Tommy Smith came on and looked after the ball.
“Their shape didn’t bother us, we have to get on the ball and dictate.”
McCormack was taken off with around 20 minutes to go after bursting through a gap in midfield, being chopped down and then appearing to pick up an ankle injury.
“Alan McCormack is being assessed now,” said Mark.
“He went through and got caught by the two players.
“As he fell two or three bodies fell on top of him.
“He is being assessed now and we will see how he is.”
