Brentford Manager Mark Warburton said he was delighted the playing side had started to repay Club Owner Matthew Benham by clinching promotion from Sky Bet League One.
The Bees beat Preston North End 1-0 at Griffin Park on Friday to take them to 90 points.
With Leyton Orient losing to Crawley Town and Rotherham United beaten 6-4 by Wolverhampton Wanderers, Brentford guaranteed themselves a place in The Championship for next season.
The Rotherham result came in late and the players watched the score come in from Molineux before the celebrations could start.
Mark said he was delighted with the way his team played against Preston and throughout the 2013/14 season.
They beat Preston with Alan Judge scoring a penalty on the half hour and Mark hailed a 90 minute performance.
He added promotion was just part of a long term plan for Brentford Football Club.
“I was delighted with the performance,” said Mark.
“The players aren’t fools, they knew the permutations and what had to happen or not happen.
“To start the game in the way we did, to apply themselves for 90 minutes, all credit to them.
“They have been magnificent all season.
“We heard it was all over at Wolves and then that it was 4-4 with five minutes to play.
“We then heard it was 5-4 and then that there was another goal.
“It was great.
“The boys can enjoy themselves.
“I am delighted for Matthew; the football department has to start to repay the support he has shown.
“I am delighted we have done this today.
“It was a big step today and we will go again, we have a long term plan in place.
“We have three more games, we will apply ourselves appropriately and then on May 3 we will enjoy ourselves.”
Mark took over as Brentford Manager in December.
He said he always believed they could achieve promotion this season after coming so close last term, finishing third in League One and losing the Play-Off Final.
Promotion came on the back of a run of home results that has seen Brentford win 17 of the last 18 at Griffin Park in all competitions.
“I had belief in the squad,” said Mark.
“I know their ability and how they apply themselves on and off the pitch.
“We have top characters.
“After last year they deserved their rewards and I am delighted they got them.
“We try to play our game whether we are at home or away.
“Griffin Park has become a fortress and it hurts the players to concede a goal here, let alone lose.
“The senior professionals have done a magnificent job.
“Characters like Tony Craig lead the team forward, Alan McCormack, Jonathan Douglas, Clayton Donaldson.
“The young ones have been more than ably supportive.”
Mark admitted in the immediate aftermath of the match he had not had time to reflect too much on it.
He explained he selected Alan Judge as part of Brentford’s midfield three as he wanted his team to be attacking.
He said he was pleased with the way the system worked.
“With Adam Forshaw suspended I wanted to make sure we didn’t lose our creative edge,” said Mark.
“We wanted an attacking instinct.
“We thought they would play three at the back and we had pace on the flanks.
“I was pleased the way it worked.
“I thought we deserved the lead at half time, had a great chance with Clayton just after.
“I think 2-0 would have calmed the nerves.
“These are unforgettable days and this is all part of it.”
