Brentford Manager Mark Warburton said he felt a 3-0 defeat was a harsh reflection of his team’s Sky Bet League One match against Wolverhampton Wanderers.
The Bees were beaten 3-0 at Griffin Park in the top-of-the-table clash yesterday.
Brentford, who started top of League One, fell behind when a James Henry ball, which appeared to be a cross, sailed in to the far corner.
Mark said he felt his team dominated after half time but lacked quality in the final third and Wolves struck two more, one on the break and the other a long range strike, to seal the win.
Mark, speaking after the match, said the first half was cagey and although his team played well after the break they did not reach their highest standards.
He said his team were not at their clinical best and had to learn from the loss.
“I think 3-0 was harsh,” said the Brentford Manager.
“The first half was cagey and I think we lacked a little belief.
“We played some good football but not at our tempo.
“The goal looked like a cross but it went in and we have to deal with it.
“We were confident in the changing room at half time that we could come out, play at our tempo and score goals.
“I think we dominated the first half hour of the second half.
“We were good but not very good.
“We lacked a little bit of quality in the final third.
“We didn’t look after the ball and take care with it.
“Today we lacked a bit of quality and weren’t clinical around the box.
“I don’t think we deserved 3-0 but it was 3-0 and we have to learn.”
Mark said Brentford still had belief at half time they would get something from the game, albeit falling behind a minute before half time was a key moment in the game.
He said the second goal scored by the visitors came when Brentford were on top but The Bees did not get enough efforts on target over the 90 minutes.
Mark added the players were hurting after the loss but would be OK if they learned from it.
“We did what we wanted to do but lacked a little bit of belief in the final third,” he said.
“At half time we were full of belief.
”The second goal came at a tough time and I don’t think we deserved it.
“We have to be realistic; we didn’t get enough shots on target.
“The players are hurting, we will move forward.
“As long as we learn what we can do better we will be OK.”
Mark explained he did not make any substitutions until the later stages of the game because he felt the XI on the pitch would get a goal.
“At 1-0, before their second goal, I thought we looked good and I thought we were going to score,” he said.
“If you are going to make a change, it has to be for the positive.
“We had good quality on the bench but the back four were doing well and we were dominating in midfield.
“We were dictating the game.
“The front players were looking bright.
“I don’t think a change made sense at that point.”
Mark said it was important that his players react to the result and the disappointment they were feeling.
He said his team wanted to put on a show in front of a large Griffin Park crowd.
He added their aim was now to make sure the Brentford fans had plenty to cheer in May.
“As a team you have to learn from disappointment,” he said.
“It is your reaction to it that is important.
“I thought our preparation was good and we were ready.
“We just lacked a bit of quality.
“We will look at the analysis and move forward.
“The moment we stop learning we are finished.
“There were three points up for grabs today.
“We have a target for five games and are two games in to it.
“That target is still achievable and if we do that we will be fine.
“There was a full house at Griffin Park.
“The fans came out in force and we wanted to put on a show.
“It didn’t happen.
“We want to give them plenty to cheer about at the end of the season.
“We now go to Carlisle; we will be ready to hopefully put on a show.”
