Brentford Head Coach Marinus Dijkhuizen said it was good to get the pre-season match programme underway.
The Bees beat Portuguese second tier side Sporting Clube Farense 3-0 yesterday evening.
Jermaine Udumaga put them ahead on a warm Portuguese evening and second half goals from Andre Gray and Jonathan Douglas sealed the win.
Brentford have been in Portugal for eight days on a training camp and Marinus said the players were happy to play.
He said he had seen some of the work done on the training pitch in action and was pleased with the performance considering the heat and the amount of training done in the lead up to the match.
“We are glad to play,” said Marinus. “We have had ten days of training and everyone is happy to play. I saw some things we had done in training on the pitch.
“We had a good results, the players got minutes, it was good. Most of the players played 45 minutes and we trained this morning on set pieces. It is good to start.”
Udumaga scored from a Moses Odubajo cross late in the first period and Gray smashed in the second late in the second half.
The third goal came with the last kick.
Marinus said he had seen some good things but also plenty to work on, which was good for him.
“The players showed they wanted to be in the match day squad,” said the Head Coach. All players knew they had 45 minutes and gave more energy to the game. We got a good result, maybe it could have been more but it was not bad.
“It was a good performance, we got no injuries, we scored some good goals. There was good attacking, defensive organisation was sometimes good but sometimes I wasn’t satisfied.
“I saw some things we need to improve and that is good. We can use the video and that is better than just talking. I want the opinion of the players as well.”
Brentford’s training camp is coming to an end and Marinus said he had no complaints.
Andreas Bjelland, Stuart Dallas and Josh McEachran arrived late in Portugal and did not play as they had not trained much but Marinus said they could feature in the next friendly, against Boreham Wood on Sunday, 19 July.
“The training camp has been very good,” he said. This is a bit like paradise, I have enjoyed it. The organisation around the team has been very good and the players have put a lot of effort in. The food is good, the weather is good, and there is nothing to complain about.
“We are not ready for the season yet, we have players come to the camp late and they have not trained much so they did not play today. We have a good squad and we will be OK.”
Around 30 Brentford supporters were at the match.
“I like that we had supporters here,” added Marinus. Everybody is curious about the new season. It is good for me to see.”
