Marinus Dijkhuizen reflected on the 1-1 draw at Elland Road, which saw Brentford unlucky not to come away with all three points after a spirited.
On the result, the Head Coach said he was “very disappointed, also the players, because we played well for the first 70 minutes” adding that his team were “by far the better side on the pitch; we scored a good goal and had a lot of chances to make it two nil.
“After the break, we had some set pieces and a big chance with Marco Djuricin, who hit the post.”
His decision to start with new signing Marco Djurcin in preference to Philipp Hofmann paid off as the Austrian International got his Brentford career off to a good start with a calmly taken finish.
“His performance last week in training was good,” said Marinus. “So that’s why I picked him. He had good running, good touch; he’s always looking for a goal, so he was dangerous today and I was happy with his performance.”
He refused to blame Ryan Woods for Leeds equalising goal and was pleased that the midfielder, also making his debut, did not hide from receiving the ball afterwards.
“It was unlucky for him,” said Marinus. “It was a big lesson but he will be a good player. I liked that after that he wanted the ball again, so he’s not afraid to get the ball so he’ll be okay.”
