Marcello Trotta said Brentford’s first goal in their Sky bet League One win over Crewe Alexandra gave them a big lift.
The striker headed the first goal just before half time and The Bees ran riot after the break.
Adam Forshaw, George Saville and Clayton Donaldson, who scored two, all found the net in a 5-0 win.
Marcello’s goal came when a free kick was half cleared, he ran on to the dropping ball and headed powerfully home from 18 yards.
He said he knew he had to take it first time as the moment would have been lost if he had taken a touch.
It came just after he had forced Crewe goalkeeper Alan Martin in to wonderful low save with another header.
“It is good to score the first goal,” said Marcello, speaking to Bees Player: Match Day Live after the game.
“We were trying all the first half to score the goal and it gave us a big lift.
“I was thinking that if I had a touch the defender would close me down.
“I had to take it first time.
“It was a hard header; I just tried to hit the target.
“I was coming in at a good speed, I got good power and the keeper was a bit surprised.
“I got it in the corner, it was good.
“I don’t know how he saved the one before; it was a really good save.
“In the end the goal arrived and it was a big lift.”
The win was Brentford’s sixth in a row in all competitions and fifth straight in Sky Bet League One.
They have also kept four consecutive clean sheets.
Central defender Harlee Dean played his 100th Brentford game in the win.
He also spoke to Bees Player: Match Day Live after the game.
“We have won five in a row in the league now,” said Harlee.
“We have scored five and kept four clean sheets.
“We know how we are going but the teams we will go up against will be thinking about us.
“It will play on their minds a bit more than before this run.
“It is all psychological.
“We are in a good place and it is showing on the pitch.”
Harlee said defensively Brentford had to be aware of a threat, although most of the action was at the other end.
“We had to be switched on at times but we scored five goals so we were mainly attacking,” he said.
“We have controlled the game well.
“We have four clean sheets in a row and that is nice to build on.
“We were good on the ball, they didn’t really have any chances.”
Marcello has scored four goals in Brentford’s six wins, finding the net in four consecutive home games.
He said he was not fully fit after arriving at the end of the Transfer Window with little football under his belt.
He said the team has found their form and he has found his, helped by Manager Uwe Rösler
“I am 100 per cent fit,” said Marcello.
“I am playing regular games and that is really important.
“The team have helped me a lot.
“We have found our form and I have found mine.
“The manager tries to get the best out of everyone.
“He wants you to play your best every game.
“We are always on our toes.
“He helps me and I think that shows on the pitch.”
He also praised the Brentford supporters for their backing.
“The fans have been great,” said the striker.
“They have always been great, since I arrived on my first loan spell last season.
“It is great to hear them sing my name.
“It gives me a big lift and, most importantly, it helps the team.
“That’s the main thing.”
Brentford’s next match is a trip to Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday, November 23.
Wolves moved to the top of the table at the weekend and Brentford are nine points behind in fourth.
Marcello said Brentford had not thought about the match before beating Crewe but would treat it as a normal game.
“We didn’t think about Wolves before this game,” he said.
“We have then win and will train for Wolves.
“We know it is a massive game but we will do the same things and hopefully we will get the win.”
Harlee said he fancied Brentford to go there and win.
“Regardless of what happens next Saturday we are back on track,” said the central defender.
“People are starting to take notice of us; we are winning games and playing well.
“Everyone talks about Wolves and that they should run away with it.
“But for me it is just another game and we fancy ourselves.
“I think we are better and we will go there looking to win.”
Harlee’s 100th Brentford game came just under two years since he first joined on loan from Southampton.
He made a permanent switch in the summer of 2012 and has now established himself in the Brentford defence.
He said he had grown as a player and a person since he came to Griffin Park.
“I am enjoying it,” he said.
“I am injury free and feel good.
“I feel I am imposing myself on games and am more of a presence.
“I have grown as a player and a person since I first arrived.
“I have gone from a boy to a man.
“The fans have helped me, they have backed me and that plays a massive part.
“I take on board what the manger and coaching staff tell me and I want to be better.
“I want to play at a higher level and I want to do it with Brentford.”
