New Brentford B signing Marc Río told the Club's Official Website that he was pleased to sign a deal with The Bees. The 19-year-old attacker agreed a two-year contract in West London on Tuesday, subject to international clearance, after he left FC Barcelona last month. Marc said that he was pleased to join a team that can help him progress as a footballer.
Speaking to brentfordfc.co.uk Marc said: "It's a great experience and very important opportunity for me. I'm looking forward to getting started now. In the short term, I can't wait to become a part of the team and looking to the future I hope I can take the opportunities given to me and become a better footballer for this club."
The youngster joined Barcelona at the age of 14 in 2010, progressing through the ranks at La Masia. Last season he was training at the highest youth level at the Club after a year with Juventil B. Here he was the top scorer with a record of 12 goals in 18 games. Described by his former coaches as a 'disciplined' and 'technical' player, he knows his best position will be close to the front line.
"I play well in the centre," said Marc. "I can cut inside from the wings and contribute that way, but I think I work better when I'm on the ball in the middle."
Marc joins the B team as they begin a new programme of fixtures after a restructuring at the end of last season. The smart number nine believes the system at Brentford will allow him to develop into a useful member of the squad.
"I need to train hard, become a little bit more physical and of course you can always find ways to become a better player overall. This is a team where you have the opportunity to one day play for the First Team and above all it is a place to prove you are good enough to make it."
