Emmanuel Oyeleke said he had no doubt Brentford’s Development Squad would beat their counterparts from Colchester United.
The Bees beat their Essex visitors 6-0 on Friday afternoon in an Under-21 Professional Development League Two clash at their Jersey Road Training Ground.
The midfielder, known as Manny, told Bees Player after the match he knew a Brentford team which included Kevin O’Connor, Leon Legge, Scott Barron and Tom Adeyemi among others would win the game.
It was Brentford’s first win in the new league after defeats against Millwall, who beat The Bees 3-0, and Bristol City, who beat The Bees 3-2 despite Brentford leading 2-1 going in to the final ten minutes.
“It was a good result, a good game,” said Manny.
“We scored a lot of goals.
“It was about time we got a win in the league.
“The aim today was just to win the game.
“We have had two games so far – we should have won at Bristol and lost to Millwall with an inexperienced team.
“We were determined to win.
“Because of the players we had I never had a doubt we were going to win.
“Luckily, it was emphatic as well.”
Manny scored the first goal of the afternoon when he headed in a Ryan Fredericks cross.
He said he knew he had a responsibility to score goals from an attacking midfield position and was pleased to do so.
He added having experienced players around the team helped the younger players.
“Having Leon Legge at the back and Kevin O’Connor in midfield is a real confidence boost,” he said.
“They have played so many games you know they are secure.
“They hardly ever make a mistake and you know you will get the ball and keep it.
“I don’t score many goals so it was good to get on the score sheet.
“It calmed me down and calmed the team down.
“We have our first win under our belts and hopefully we can push on from here.”
