Makhosini Khanye thought Brentford’s Youth Team put in one of their performances of the season in putting five past Ipswich Town on Saturday morning.
The Bees went into the game on the back of three straight defeats but a fourth defeat looked highly unlikely once Makhosini gave Jon De Souza’s side an early lead.
Zain Westbrooke made it 2-0 after half-time before Bradley Clayton’s brace and one from Decarey Sheriff rounded off the scoring.
The result keeps The Bees at the head of affairs in the Under-18 Professional Development League Two South heading towards the end of season play-offs.
Speaking to Bees Player after the match Makhosini was pleased with his side’s clinical edge and defensive solidity and felt the result was never in doubt.
“Today has got to be one of the best Youth Team performances this season,” said Makhosini.
“We scored five against them, looked pretty comfortable and we didn’t look like we were going to concede at all.
“We were good in front of goal and we always looked like we were going to score.
“It is very encouraging after last week.
“Everyone here has taken encouragement out of the last game and come into this game knowing they have to put into practice what we have done in training.
“Everyone has put in a real shift and we looked clinical in front of goal.
“At half-time Jon told us to keep doing the same thing and dominate possession.
“That is what we showed in the second-half because in the last 10-15 minutes they were blowing and we racked up four or five and that was the game done.
“People can’t press for 90 minutes; it is as simple as that.
“Once we got the ball we were able to dictate passes and that showed.
“Before the game we wanted the clean sheet, it was just depending on whether we were going to do it or not.
“After the second and the third we knew the game was done but it just so happened that we were able to get number four and five to kill it off.
“They weren’t able to touch the ball after that.”
Makhosini has been employed further forward in recent weeks, playing off the right of a midfield diamond or on the right of three attacking midfielders.
Saturday’s goal was his third of the season and second in two matches since the New Year.
Makhosini acknowledged how important it is that he and his fellow midfielders chip in with goals and he is pleased to be able to help.
“I am building up quite a goalscoring record and I am buzzing,” said Makhosini.
“You can’t always rely on your strikers to get goals.
“It is vital for your players out wide, and the one in behind, to get goals and push on.
“I am happy to get two goals in two games and to be back playing.
“I want to make the most of things and push on to see what happens at the end of the season.
“I am trying to do the best that I can and do as much as I can further up the pitch, creating and scoring goals.
“That is showing because I have scored two in two and I just want to keep going.”
Makhosini is one of a number of players whose two-year scholarship ends in the summer.
Players at the end of their scholarship will either be offered their first professional contract or released to try and find opportunities elsewhere.
Makhosini admits the looming decision is something that the players think about but he believes it is important that they just try and get their heads down and keep working hard.
“We do think about the end of the season a lot but then again your mind always has to be on the session and what we are doing next,” said Makhosini.
“It is always in the back of your head but every day comes and you learn from every session.
“You have to try to do your best in every session and push on.
“It is about knowing that decisions are being made on you but not letting it get to you all the time.”
