The hosts gave everything in that second-half but ultimately they couldn't find the goals they needed to get the draw they deserved after Dereece Richards and Louis Hutton had put The Bees 2-0 ahead. The Bees were good in patches in the first-half and defended valiantly in the second period to give Jon De Souza's side their first win of this pre-season campaign.
Hippolyte gets free down the right and runs into the box, he pulls the ball back but it rolls behind the on-rushing attackers and is mopped up by Westbrooke who clears.
The home fans really do have some incentive now as Gilbey, who has come back onto the field in the second-half, rises highest and plants a header home from four yards from a Green corner.
The decent crowd here tonight are really getting behind the hosts as they batter at the door. They are given more encouragement as Tzanev nearly lets a shot from Tarpey trickle past him and into the net but The Bees keeper recovers to grab the ball a couple of yards out.
The hosts are still giving it a real go and Holait heads wide from eight yards after he gets onto the end of Green's testing free-kick from wide on the right.
Maidenhead break with purpose and for a moment it is two against one but Milenge does well to hold up Hippolyte to give covering defenders time to recover. When the cross does come in it is spilled by Tzanev but he atones for that error with a fine save to turn Green's looping effort over the bar.
Tarpey embarks on a weaving run at the Brentford defence drawing in a couple of defenders but, with support ether side, he goes for the spectacular from 25 yards and it is easy for Tzanev.
The Bees complete their changes for the night as Westbrooke, Khanye and Yeboah come on for Hutton, Eyre and Mawson while Bobby Behzadi comes on for Erskine for the hosts.
Despite conceding a second the opening quarter hour of this half has been all the home side. Green sees a shot deflect off Mawson and safely into the arms of Tzanev.
he hosts continue to press and Stone makes a brave block to deny Dave Tarpey before a Hippolyte's cross has Tzanev clutching at thin air as it floats behind.
The Bees have had a shaky couple of minutes since going 2-0 ahead. Firstly Holait sees a header cleared off the line and then, after Gradi Milenge's resulting clearance goes up rather than away, the Maidenhead substitute heads straight at Tzanev from 12 yards.
The former Manchester City midfielder is flattened in the area going for a header and picks himself up to calmly roll home into the bottom left corner.
Richards should have his second of the night as he runs clear through on goal but he gets his feet tangled up and trips over the ball and it rolls through to the keeper.
Plenty of changes at half-time as Nik Tzanev replaces Smith and Xavier Vidal is on for Jermaine Udumaga for The Bees. The home side replace Gilbey, Nisbet, Azeez, Clifton and Brown with Leon Solomon, Jamesh Holait, Dave Tarpey, Ashley Nicholls and Jonathan Hippolyte.
The Bees just about to deserve to have the half-time lead given to them by Richards' header. They have been the sharper in possession but Maidenhead are breaking quickly when they win the ball back and could have taken the lead when Brown's shot cannoned back off the crossbar less than a minute before Richards' opener.
Having come so close to taking the lead The Magpies are hit in injury time as Eyre forces a fine one handed save from Putnins but Richards reacts quickest to head into an empty net from seven yards.
The hosts come closest to an opener on the stroke of half-time as Brown's shot is charged down by Lionel Stone with the ball looping over Mark Smith and crashing off the crossbar and and back out to safety.
Eyre forces Putnins into a comfortable low save with a shot from 20 yards.
The home side break quickly and Adrian Clifton frees Brown who cuts inside Mawson and floats a measured shot about a yard over the angle of post and bar from 15 yards.
The Bees are starting to take control of the game but are lacking that bit of cohesion in the final third to open up Maidenhead's solid bank of four.
I'm not sure what the Maidenhead Advertiser has done to annoy Tison-Lascaris but he seems keen to hit his shots into the large advert for it hanging from the top of the stand behind the goal, as he blazes another presentable chance over from 12 yards.
Hutton wins The Bees a free-kick on the edge of the box with some quick feet but Alfie Mawson effort is straight at Putnins and he makes the save.
Both sides have their best chances within the space of a minute as Stefan Brown curls tamely into Smith's arms before Putnins makes a fine sprawling save to deny Eyre and Oyeleke can only acrobatically hook the rebound over from 6 yards.
Osei-Tutu has lasted just 20 minutes before he has to be replaced by Danny Green due to injury.
Gradi Milenge, last year's Youth Team Player of the Year, makes a fine interception at the expense of a corner. It is cleared and Hutton leads a Brentford break. Having laid the ball out wide Hutton gets into the box only to see his effort from 8 yards blocked and scrambled away.
A moment of slight alarm for The Bees as Isaac Osei-Tutu's cross evades everybody and has Smith scrambling across as it drifts just wide of his far post. At the other end Eyre lashes wide from 12 yards after getting in behind the Maidenhead backline.
A clever short corner routine gets Dereece Richards free inside the box but his shot is deflected behind for another set-piece which comes to nothing.
- Maidenhead are playing a more conventional 4-4-2 and that is allowing Louis Hutton acres of space and he tests Elvijs Putnins from 25 yards. The keeper makes an unconvincing save to palm his shot away.
- The home side have the first chance as Reece Tison-Lascaris fires high into the empty stand behind Mark Smith's goal from a tight angle after good interplay on The Magpies right.
- With Aaron Greene getting forward well from left-back in the early stages Femi Akinwande has pushed inside to join Jake Eyre up front with Emmanuel Oyeleke and Jermaine Udumaga looking to support from the midfield.
The two sides stride onto the pitch which is bathed in bright sunshine behind tonight's referee Charles Breakspear, the man in charge when Brentford beat Notts County 3-1 at Griffin Park back in April.
Brentford will be kicking into the sun and up the slope in the first-half and it is they who get the game underway.

The pitch here at York Road slopes towards the main stand and from left to right with the top left corner a good metre or two higher than the bottom right corner.
The London to Reading train line runs behind the main stand and is well in range of a row Z clearance.
Maidenhead United's York Road may be the oldest continually used football stadium in the world but it may also contain one of the newest stands in world football.
The main stand was only fully built on Friday, in time for the hosts local derby with Slough Town on Saturday, and the finishing touches are still being added to it.
