Louis Hutton said Brentford’s Development Squad played “really well” in their Under-21 Professional Development League Two South win against Millwall.
The Bees beat their South London opponents 2-0 yesterday afternoon.
Will Grigg scored the first, capitalising when a corner wasn’t cleared, and Stuart Dallas made it safe in the second half.
Louis, speaking to Bees Player after the match, said he thought the first half hour was even but Brentford took control.
He said Development Squad Manager Jon De Souza had asked his team, which included a large number of players with First Team experience, to retain the ball and then press to get it back.
Louis said he felt 2-0 was a fair result.
“I thought we played well,” he said.
“The first half hour was pretty even but after that we dominated possession and the goals came.
“We took our chances and in the second half we passed it really well.
“Jon asked us for 70 per cent possession today, and I think we did that.
“That would allow us to press with high intensity and get the ball back for the other 30 per cent.
“That is the message in every game really.
“With a lot of First Team players playing, he emphasised the message.
“I think 2-0 was a fair result.
“We had a few other chances but I don’t think they had many.
“It was a good result.”
Louis, who joined The Bees at the start of the month, said he was pleased Brentford kept a clean sheet and added they defended better in the second half than the first.
He played in a central midfield three slightly behind Jake Reeves and Emmanuel Oyeleke, who is known as Manny, and said it was great to play in.
“We are definitely pleased with the clean sheet,” said Louis.
“We could have defended better in the first half.
“In the midfield we probably didn’t get tight enough.
“We had lots of the ball in the second half and got it back quickly.
“We moved the ball quickly when we had it.
“Manny and Jake Reeves did well; we got the ball wide and got crosses in.
“There were some great one-touch moves and it was great to play.
“Manny and Jake are great players; you can give them the ball and get it back because you know they won’t lose it.
“It is only my third game and the second with Jake but I train with Manny every day and Jake is such a good player, he will fit in anywhere.”
Louis said he was enjoying his time at Brentford.
He signed until the summer of 2015 earlier this month after a successful trial and has played 90 minutes in the last three games – home and away against Swansea City and yesterday against Millwall.
Louis said The Bees were unlucky to lose to Swansea last week and have played well since he arrived.
Brentford have six more Under-21 Professional Development League Two South matches to play before April 8 and Louis said that would help him get sharp.
“I am enjoying it so far,” said the midfield player.
“Training has been really good, I have been up with the First Team a few times, and I think we have played really well in the matches.
“Last week we were unlucky and this week we won.
“Last week Swansea have a similar philosophy to us and we had most of the ball.
“This week we have had 70 per cent possession, hopefully.
“That is the way we want to play and the way I think it should be played.
“Before my first game for Brentford I hadn’t played for three months.
“Getting a nice run of games is what I need.
“We have a game every week for the next six or seven.
“A good run of games will help me get sharp and everyone can see what I can do.”
Louis said Brentford wanted to win games as that would help them get noticed individually.
“The aim is to climb the table,” he said.
“You play to win and it’s always nice.
“We don’t get told that we have to win every game but as players we know that winning games gets you noticed.
“If we can win six or seven out of seven, the manager will notice.”
