Shaleum Logan said Brentford’s game against Carlisle United on Saturday would give them a chance to get rid of the “horrible feeling” of defeat to Stevenage.
Brentford’s five game unbeaten npower League One run was brought to an end in Hertfordshire.
Stevenage scored a goal in the last 15 minutes to take the points and hand The Bees their sixth defeat of the campaign.
Brentford travel to Carlisle on Saturday and Shaleum, speaking to Bees Player after the match, said a game so soon was a good thing after a poor show against Stevenage.
“We have to go to Carlisle and put in a better performance,” said the defender.
“We will go there thinking we can win.
“We have had an upset today and we have only lost six games, as few as anyone in the league.
“We don’t know what it feels like to lose.
“It’s a horrible feeling.
“We will go Carlisle and put it right so we don’t have this feeling again.”
Stevenage came in to the game on the back of six straight losses but had the better of the first half.
They hit the woodwork twice and Simon Moore made a few fine saves, including going across his goal in the blink of an eye to deny Marcus Haber.
Brentford started with three central midfield players – Jake Reeves, Jonathan Douglas and Tom Adeyemi – with Bradley Wright-Phillips on the left and Clayton Donaldson as a lone striker but Stevenage took control of the match.
The second half was more even but Haber scored the winner late on.
Shaleum, who came on at half time after Manager Uwe Rösler – who admitted his first half tactics had not worked as hoped – shuffled his pack, said Stevenage’s intensity was obvious.
The defeat was another disappointment for The Bees in Hertfordshire – they lost 2-1 to Stevenage last season, missing two penalties in the process.
“We knew it would be tough when we came here, after last year,” said Shaleum.
“They were on a losing streak and needed points.
“They gave us a real good game.
“We came here with a game plan and maybe it didn’t work today.
“They were at it from the first minute.
“They wanted to show their fans they want to stay in this division.
“Every game for them is crucial.
“They gave 110 per cent.”
Shaleum said Brentford knew what to expect from Stevenage and the home side executed their game plan well.
“I came on at half time, you knew it would be a battle,” he said.
“They have big players and they lump it to Haber up front and play off him.
“He played well for them, held the ball up and got a goal from nothing, due to his sheer size.
“That was their game plan and it worked.”
