Shaleum Logan believes that victory in the npower Play-Off final can cap off an incredible season of highs and lows for Brentford.
The Bees booked their place at Wembley with a penalty shoot-out win over Swindon Town in the Semi-Final after conceding an injury time equaliser to take the tie to extra time.
Brentford won the shoot-out 5-4 with Adam Forshaw firing home the decisive spot kick.
The Bees had been within a kick of The Championship on the last day of the regular season when Marcello Trotta fired a penalty against the crossbar in the 94th minute against Doncaster Rovers and the visitors went up the other end and scored to win 1-0.
The Bees, who have been involved in umpteen rollercoaster matches this season, would have been promoted if they had won.
Shaleum said the last few weeks have thrown up some tough moments for him and the team but he believed everybody will make sure they get the right result against Yeovil Town on Sunday at Wembley.
“When Adam Forshaw’s penalty went in it was a feeling of relief,” said Shaleum.
“Swindon’s third goal was a killer blow and I was thinking to myself ‘Oh no it’s extra time’ but when Adam scored the penalty there was relief but also a sense of justice because I really believed we deserved to win that game comfortably.
“This season has had so many highs from late goals and late penalties and then the biggest low of my career against Doncaster and that goal against Swindon was a massive blow again.
“However that’s all part and parcel of football and I hope we have that last high of the season against Yeovil on Sunday.
“We have had such a long season, starting early on, and we have had so many games this season we want to finish on a high now we are here.
“We are playing Yeovil on Sunday and I’m sure the lads will put everything in to get that one final performance that is needed.”
Yeovil have done the double over Brentford in the league campaign this season.
The Glovers won 3-1 at Griffin Park in August and followed that up with a 3-0 victory at Huish Park in February.
Shaleum believes that the previous results mean nothing when it comes to Sunday’s one-off game and thinks that if The Bees get it right on the day they can emerge victorious.
“The previous results against Yeovil won’t mean anything at 1.30 on Sunday,” said Shaleum.
“The way we lost the game at home – we missed the penalty at 1-1 and that turned the game.
“Then at their place was the worst pitch we have ever played on, definitely this season at least.
“It was a very bad pitch but something they are used to, and come 1.30 on Sunday all that will mean nothing.
“They know they will be in a battle as will we.
“We have played them twice this season and we have a point to prove against them and hopefully come Sunday that will happen.
“Yeovil will have done their homework on us and we will have done our homework on them.
“We will set out our tactics over the next few days to see how we will play against them.
“We have played them twice already but it is one game now and hopefully if we get our tactics right we will be the victors.”
Shaleum believes that the extra time off between the Semi-Finals and Final has been beneficial to himself and the squad.
The right-back has played 52 games this season and admits it took him a few days to get over the game against Swindon at Griffin Park last Monday.
The Wembley Play-Off final will be The Bees 59th game of the season and Shaleum believes these two weeks break will have helped members of the squad try and get over niggles picked up over the season.
“For me this extra break is a good thing,” said Shaleum.
“With the way the game went going to extra time it took me three or four days to recover so it’s good that the game was a few weeks away.
“I’m sure there were a few players who would want this game earlier but it gives us time to prepare properly and to wind down and then gear up for the game properly, so I think it’s about the right time.
“There are going to be little niggles but it is one game and people get through whole seasons with little niggles.
“Everyone is going to want to put 100 per cent in there for this one game.”
Sunday will be Shaleum’s first game at Wembley and he admits that this will be the biggest moment of his career so far.
Watched on by friends and family, the 24-year-old, says that these are the games that every player wants to play in during their careers.
Shaleum said: “I have never played at Wembley and never even been to Wembley so it is a big moment in my career and one I am happy to take.
“I have a few friends coming down from Manchester and none of them have been to Wembley so it will be a good day and hopefully we get the right result and we can have celebrations after.
“These are the sort of games you want to play in your career.
“The Play-Offs were big games but this is the biggest game of my career and I am really looking forward to it.”
