Shaleum Logan said Brentford’s FA Cup with Budweiser Second Round Replay against Bradford City brought back memories of one of the few defeats of the 2012/13 season.
Brentford trailed twice to the npower League Two side before winning in extra time and booking a place in the Third Round.
The Bees dominated the game and Shaleum said they should have won the game comfortably.
He added it reminded him of a defeat against Leyton Orient in September when the East London side were on the back foot throughout but snatched the points as Brentford failed to convert their chances.
Shaleum, speaking to Bees Player after the match, said Brentford kept going well to win the game in extra time.
“We made it harder than we needed to,” said the defender.
“Towards the end of the game they were there for the taking.
“But we were never nervous.
“We had really good chances that we didn’t take.
“It reminded us of the Leyton Orient game, we had lots of chances and they snuck a goal to win the game.
“We took our chances in extra time.
“We knew we would create chances but games go like that sometimes.
“They don’t always go in.
“You have to keep going.
“We showed in extra time, we put four chances away and the better team won in the end.”
Bradford took the lead in the first half at Griffin Park before Marcello Trotta equalised from the penalty spot.
The visitors took the lead again in extra time but Marcello Trotta equalised again, Clayton Donaldson put The Bees in front and Harry Forrester sealed the win.
Harry Forrester and Clayton Donaldson had been brought on as substitutes and Shaleum said Brentford knew they had the players to win the game.
“Going behind seems to spur us on,” he said.
“But we don’t want to have to go behind to give us a boost.
“We never felt we were out of the game, we thought we would get chances and when we did, we put them away.
“Trotta is excellent at holding up the ball.
“Harry can beat two or three players in one go and Clayton is strong and pacy.
“We knew if we got in to a struggle we had the players to get us over the line.”
Bradford’s second goal was a penalty awarded for a foul by Shaleum on Blair Turgott.
The defender said he was disappointed it was awarded.
“I didn’t think it was a penalty,” he said.
“He played the ball away and the referee seemed to react to their players.
“Maybe I’ll think differently if I look again.
“The referee has a decision to make and he’s made it, I’m just glad we came out of the game and won.
“It would have been disappointing for everyone if we had lost to that penalty but more so for me as I would have taken it on my shoulders.”
Brentford will play Southend United away from home in the Third Round in early January.
Shaleum said The Bees want to get as far as they can and pit themselves against higher-ranked teams.
“The FA Cup is great,” he said.
“If we beat Southend away, we can face a big team in the next round.
“We want to get as far as we can.
“We are glad to get a win.
“Everyone wants to play a big team.
“We will go to Southend in a positive mind, hope to get through and get a big team.
“It would be good for the Club to play a Premier League team.
“You always want to play against better players.”
