Shaleum Logan said Brentford should have won their npower League One game against Coventry City given the chances they created but the squad were happy with a point.
The Bees picked up a 1-1 draw at the Ricoh Arena as they came from behind to take a point.
The home side went ahead just before half time when they were awarded a disputed penalty.
But Clayton Donaldson crossed for Harry Forrester to score at the far post seconds after the re-start.
The Bees had plenty of chances – Clayton Donaldson lifted the ball over Coventry goalkeeper Joe Murphy in the first half only to see it roll wide and then lashed over from close range at the death – but could not find a winner.
The point leaves Brentford fourth in League One with five games to go.
They have games in hand on the three teams above them and Shaleum said they will only close the gap by winning them.
“It’s tough to come back from 1-0 down,” said Shaleum, speaking to Bees Player after the match.
“The lads have put in a shift.
“We are happy with a point.
“It puts the other games in to perspective now.
“They are games we have to win to get automatic promotion.
“We went in to the game thinking we could win and with the chances we had we probably should have won.
“We started the game very well, Clayton had a good chance and there were others.
“If they go in we win the game comfortably.
“It doesn’t seem to be going for us around the box at the moment.
“I’m sure we will win games if we put chances like that away.”
Coventry were awarded a penalty when Harlee Dean tussled with Richard Wood and the Coventry central defender threw himself down.
Referee Scott Mathieson awarded the spot kick and Carl Baker converted it.
But Brentford levelled after the break when Clayton Donaldson brushed Wood off the ball and crossed for Forrester to score.
Brentford Manager Uwe Rösler introduced Bradley Wright-Phillips as they sought a winner but they could not find one.
“I didn’t see the penalty,” said Shaleum.
“Harlee said it wasn’t a penalty.
“We can’t criticise the referee, we need to get on with it.
“The manager said at half time to go out there and not change much.
“We got a goal within two minutes and we thought we would go on to win.
“Clayton did very well and Harry did well to slot it in.
“It gave us a great lift and we thought we would go on to win.
“We brought Brad on, went to two strikers, it just wouldn’t go for us.”
Shaleum said the pitch did not help the game and made it difficult for both teams to pass the ball.
Coventry almost profited when a John Fleck shot bounced wickedly off the pitch and hit Simon Moore in the face while Clayton Donaldson’s first half lob may have gone in if it had bounced differently off the surface.
“The pitch didn’t help either team,” said Shaleum.
“We felt like we were the better team.
“We will take the point, but it could have been more.
“There was no grass on the pitch and it was hard to control the ball.
“But it’s the same for both teams.
“We need more grass to play the sort of game we like to play.”
The defender also praised the Brentford travelling fans who made the presence felt at the Ricoh Arena.
More than 1,600 headed to the match five days after more than 2,000 had attended the away match against Milton Keynes Dons.
“It’s great to see so many fans,” he said.
“There were 2,000 on Monday and 1,600 today.
“We can’t thank them enough; it gives us an extra buzz.
“It gives us the extra we need to push us over the line.”
The draw ended a run of three away defeats and Shaleum said that was a run that needed to end.
The Bees have five games left and will finish in the top two and earn automatic promotion if they win them all.
“Our away form hasn’t been the best,” said Shaleum.
“We stopped the run of three away defeats now.
“We know that if we win every game we will go up.
“The minimum we will get this season is the Play-Offs but we can still go up automatically and that is what we all want.”
