There was heartbreak for three Brentford players out on loan at Wycombe Wanderers last night.
Development Squad defender Alfie Mawson, Sam Saunders and Nico Yennaris are all on loan at the Sky Bet League Two side.
The trio started for the Buckinghamshire side against Southend United yesterday, Saturday May 23, in the League Two Play-Off Final at Wembley.
Sam’s day lasted minutes as he was withdrawn with a calf injury but Nico and Alfie were heavily involved as the match ended 0-0.
Wycombe then took the lead in extra time and Nico was withdrawn with cramp in the final moments.
Unfortunately for Wycombe, Southend then equalised in stoppage time in extra time to deny them a place in League One and send the match to penalties.
Wycombe had the lead in the shoot-out and Alfie scored his but Southend eventually won 7-6 on spot kicks when Wanderers’ eighth – taken by former Bee Sam Wood – was saved.
The three will now return to Brentford but Wycombe will remain in League Two.
Meanwhile Development Squad attacker Montell Moore is on loan at Danish club FC Midtjylland.
FCM, as they are known, clinched the Danish Superliga title on Thursday, May 21.
Montell has also been involved for the Under-19 side during his loan side and they beat FC Nordsjælland yesterday to give them the championship at that level as well.
Montell did not play.
