Lee Carsley wants Brentford to build on Saturday’s victory over Rotherham United and feels there is more to come from his team.
The Bees picked up their first win under Lee thanks to a goal in each half from Alan Judge helped to down Neil Redfern’s Rotherham United at Griffin Park
Speaking to Bees Player after the match Lee felt that Saturday’s win was a deserved victory and he is looking to use it as a springboard moving forward.
“This first win feels good,” said Lee. “I am really happy for the players for the effort that they have put in today and they got what they deserved. It has been a tough two or three weeks and we want this to be something that we can build on. We don’t want to be celebrating too much, we have to keep it going. There were a lot of positives today. Alan Judge will grab the headlines with his two goals but there were a lot of good performances all over the pitch.
“It is important now that we build on this and not just rest on it. We will debrief this game and look at the good bits and the bad bits. There is a lot more to come from the team and the players given time.”
Coming off the back of the international break Lee said it was especially pleasing to see so much of what they had been working on during the break come off in today’s victory.
“We targeted two or three things over the international break that we wanted to get into the players,” said Lee. “That got us into the position today where we were a little bit more organised and forward thinking and had a little bit more energy. The way that we started the game was really pleasing. We won the ball straight away from the kick-off and a minute later the ball is in the back of the net. It was a disappointing start to the second-half and that is something we need to look at.
“We spoke before the game that we are never going to get 90 minutes where everything goes your way. We have to deal with bad news and I felt that the reaction to giving the goal away was very good. We were resilient today and I though the two centre-backs and goalkeeper were very good today.”
Lee made a number of changes to his starting line-up ahead of the visit of the Rotherham United with John Swift and Sergi Canos making their full Brentford debuts.
The former Everton midfielder was pleased with how the players coming into the squad played and, with five more games to come in the next three weeks, emphasised how important the whole squad will be in the coming weeks.
“We have six games in 22 day and we have spoken about the importance of the squad,” said Lee. “We need to make sure that the lads on the outside are ready to come in. It is very rare that the team which starts the game finishes the game so it is important that the lads who come on make an impact.
“I thought that John Swift and Sergi Canos did well today. There is a lot more to come from Sergi and I could have brought him off at half-time because he was cramping up in the dressing room which happens with young players. That is something that we will have to be aware for the game coming up on Wednesday. John Swift has impressed everyone with his attitude and ability in training.”
