Lasse Vibe hopes that Saturday’s 3-0 win over Nottingham Forest can prove to be a springboard for a strong end to the season for The Bees. Dean Smith’s side wrapped up their first win in five matches thanks to second-half goals from Lasse, Nico Yennaris and Sergi Canos at The City Ground. Now ahead of the visit of bottom placed Bolton Wanderers to Griffin Park on Tuesday night, Lasse hopes these three points and three goals can be followed up by another positive performance and result in front of the home fans.
“The win was a massive result for us,” said Lasse. “Going away from home we haven’t won many games lately so it was very important for us to get three huge points. We have given away a lot of goals recently. The Blackburn game before the international break we looked solid, like we did today, but today we got that goal. That gave us a gameplan to sit back and counter-attack them and that gave us 3-0. Hopefully the team can go on a run now. We are all focussed on getting a win on Tuesday. I would like to get some personal success as well but hopefully my hard work can get us another three points on Tuesday. We owe the home fans because they have seen some bad results lately so they deserve a win. Hopefully we will get that for them on Tuesday.”
Lasse took advantage of some indecision in the Forest backline to poke The Bees in front just after the break. The goal ended a three month goal drought for the 29-year-old striker and Lasse was delighted to get on the scoresheet, especially as it set Brentford on their way to the three points.
“I made a run in behind and Alan Judge tried to find me,” said Lasse. “Sometimes it is a perfect ball and you can go in one-on-one but this one held up and the defender was waiting for the goalkeeper to come out. The pitch was really dry so it stopped and I got a foot in and put it in the goal. It was a brilliant pass. It might have been a mistake by them but I don’t mind. It was nice to score, especially because it was an important goal.”
Lasse returned on Wednesday after international duty with the Danish national team, having made a substitute appearance in The Danes 2-1 win over Iceland last Friday night. The former IFK Goteborg striker admitted that his confidence had taken a hit on his long spell without a goal but that going away, and putting in a good performance, with the national side had helped to restore some of that lost faith in his abilities.
“It has been difficult because as a striker you want to score goals,” said Lasse. “I tried to do a little bit extra after training to try and get my finishing back. It is difficult to get that confidence back because there has been low confidence in the group as we haven’t won that many games. With that there hasn’t been a chance to score the easy goals. I was away for a few days with the best players from Denmark and that gave me a lot of confidence. I used that to my advantage today and feel refreshed. I am really looking forward to the end of the season now.
“Denmark have great players like Christian Erikson, Kasper Schmeichel and Daniel Agger so when you go away and see that you can do well at that level you get confidence. Training was really good and I felt that I performed really well. That confidence is the confidence that I came here with when I scored a few goals and now I have got it back I am really happy.”
