Lasse Vibe felt there wasn’t much between Brentford and Middlesbrough as The Bees fell to a 3-1 defeat against Aitor Karanka’s side at The Riverside Stadium.
Cristhian Stuani netted either side of Lasse’s second goal for the club, with Albert Adomah adding a late third, to secure the win for the home side.
Speaking to Bees Player after the match Lasse felt The Bees more than matched their hosts for spells during the match but said they must work on extending those spells of dominance.
“We are disappointed in the dressing room after the defeat tonight,” said Lasse. “We always want to win and tonight we did a good job but it wasn’t enough. It was an even first-half and there wasn’t really much in it. We didn’t see much of the ball but we were really good in the transitions. We went a little bit too deep after they scored their goal but we came out strongly in the second-half looking for the goal and we got it. However we gave away possession too quickly and allowed them to get their goal.
“We had a couple of great chances and didn’t take them and maybe that was the difference. We found our game and our possession at the beginning of the second-half and we really thought we had something going but then we got that punch to the stomach and we were back to square one. It is really positive that we can play our football against a fantastic team like Middlesbrough but we need to do it more than just a couple of five to ten minute periods in every game. They have got quality players and we have got quality players but they are a little bit more consistent.”
The players and staff spent an extended stay in the North of England around the fixtures with Leeds United and Middlesbrough and Lasse feels that has been good for team unity and bonding.
The Denmark International can see improvements in the squad but said that now is the time to translate those improvements into points on the pitch.
“We have got new guys all over the pitch and in the staff too,” said Lasse. “This trip has been about us getting to know each other more socially because we haven’t been able to train as much due to the tight games schedule. We have been having tactical meetings and I think socially we are getting to know each other more as a group and there is a positive spirit in the group. From the inside I can see an upwards curve but unfortunately it is not that curve that decides where you are in the table so we need to get some points on the table.”
After four away matches in their opening six Sky Bet Championship fixtures The Bees now have three games at Griffin Park coming up in the next two weeks.
Lasse is looking forward to getting back to playing in front of the home fans and showing the Griffin Park crowd what the team are capable of.
“We have got three home games and it is about time that we get some points,” said Lasse. “There’s no better time to do it than at home and show our lovely home crowd that we can play football. It was all credit to the guys that came here, and it was great to see some Brentford fans here, but we really want to win at home and pay something back to them for their support.”
