Brentford B winger Kyreece Lisbie felt the side were well worth their victory as they picked up a 1-0 win over Millwall Under-21s on Friday afternoon.
Having also played AFC Wimbledon earlier in the week, the young team had to battle hard for each other as they earned a clean sheet and netted through first team player Kristoffer Ajer in the second half.
Reflecting on the result and the week, Kyreece said: “The boys dug in; dug deep, obviously we had two games in three days so we all did well. We were tired but we got through so we’re really happy with the win. It was about desire, always trying to be first to the ball and we stuck to the game plan. We worked hard in the week about what we were going to do to break Millwall down and we studied them in the analysis room to work out what to do.”

Against AFC Wimbledon Kyreece played more centrally but reverted to the left-hand side against Millwall at Jersey Road. His tireless running made him an asset for Neil MacFarlane’s side throughout the match and he almost got on the scoresheet but saw his low effort saved by the Lions’ keeper. Kyreece explained that the minimum he will put in will always be his hard work and his chasing down of the opposition.
He continued: “I’m born with it, this running. Neil and Saunds (Sam Saunders) push us, and I feel like every time I step on the pitch I have to play as if it’s my last game, so I have to work hard and run. That’s what I will continue to do, and I hope it impresses the manager as well.”
The chance to play in the same team as Ajer on the day gave the young players the chance to learn from an international defender with Premier League experience. Kyreece believes lining up alongside the likes of Ajer as he builds his fitness is fantastic for the group.
“He was amazing, and he even scored as well,” smiled Kyreece. “It’s clear to see the difference in his leadership and his quality, it was amazing to play with him. He won every single ball in the air, hopefully I will be up there one day but until then I’m going to keep learning from the first team players that come down.
“The boys are amazing, the coaches too, and I feel like I’ve developed already so I’m excited to see what this season holds. I’m very happy with how things are going so far.”
