Brentford Women’s First Team midfielder Kirsty Matthews scored the winner on Sunday afternoon against AFC Acorns to ensure her side proceeded through to the League Cup Third Round.
The number 15 played a major role in the Bees picking up the win against a team who ply their trade in the league above, as the hosts displayed a dominant performance.
Following the match Matthews said: “In the first half we could have done better but in the second half we played them off the park.
“It was an unbelievable performance from everyone, we got the ball down and played through the thirds really well and came away deserved winners.”
After falling behind in just the second minute of the game, the home team got their equaliser on 16 minutes through a direct corner from Nikki Saunders.
Despite being in control for most of the first half Manager, Karleigh Osborne felt his side could do more and in the second half the Bees displayed their best performance of the season.
It was only a matter of time before Matthews gave her team the lead after coming close on several occasions prior to her strike on 57 minutes.

The attacker was first on scene to tap home the rebound following a lovely move which ended in Logie forcing Graves into making a great save, only for the ball to sit perfectly for Matthews to put the home team ahead.
She said: “It felt really good to get the goal, we were drawing at that point so to get the winner and to help the team out was a really nice feeling.
“Overall, the team performance is most important, and I can’t take away any of the credit from the other girls.”
Matthews then went on to talk about the excitement within the changing room heading into next weekend’s game at the Gtech Community Stadium against Watford Ladies Development.
“Everyone is buzzing we can’t wait for the opportunity, and we are all really grateful of the club for allowing us to perform at the stadium.
“We like the fact that we are involved with the club so closely, we do gym work at the men’s training ground, and we really appreciate the effort put towards the women’s teams.
